Yes it would still spark. Check all the wiring. The coil/s could also be faulty. Another thing to check is the ignitor if you have one.

I would expect a spark even if the timing was wrong.
But if you didn't alter anything when you worked on the engine, it would not have changed.
What I suggest is happening is that the EMS for some reason is not seeing the engine cranking speed RPM.
What type of CAS[Crank Angle Sensor] are you using?
The EMS needs a reliable RPM signal at all times.

I didnt change anything to do with the timing. All I did was pulled the manifold off, got it welded and put it back on.

I did have to take the wires off the distributor though to get the manifold off. I put them back on the same way I took them off.

The Crank Angle Sensor was removed before I purchased the car and it has an electronic distributor.

As MYDATO suggests it could be anything in the Ignition side of things.
You will need to trace the Ignition Signal right through the system and determine where it fails.
I gather then that the EMS is a fuel only ECU?
It still needs an RPM signal.
Does it display any RPMs when you crank the engine?

Yes the RPMs go up to 00200RPM on the handset when I attempt to start the car. Then back to 00000RPM when I stop trying to start it.

The IGN ADV changes from 32.4 to 32.6 and then 32.8 when it is winding. Then back to 32.4 when i stop trying.

OK well that proves the ECU "knows" the engine is turning.
All I can suggest is that you check the wiring, ignitor/coil etc. and try to find where the signal goes.
I think that 30deg. BTDC is a bit much :?

Hi Guys

Here is an update for you.

I was sure I wrote down the correct way the wires came off the dizzy when I pulled it apart.. which turns out to be a series 4 rotary crank sensor.

Well I got it wrong. I put it back together with 2 wires around the wrong way..

So I am to blame for the mistake. I had the EMS guy take a look and he picked it up within 15 minutes what I had done.

I want to thankyou all so much for your replies.

The datsun kicked over tonight and is purring again.

Kindest Regards
Jason
