Didn't think you could register F40's at all, Club rego must be a way around it.

...I wouldn't mind an F40...

According to that thread, there's also no stamp duty.

Just read this in the Classic Skylines Australia newsletter...
Quote:
The freedoms enjoyed by members which take
advantage of the Club Permit scheme (CPS) is under
threat, following on from a recent seminar with the
Association of motoring clubs (AOMC) that Travis
and I attended there are ideas currently in front of
Vicroads to make sweeping changes to how the CPS
is applied for cars that are Modified.
One of the main changes is where a vehicle is modified
enough past standard that they would require a full
VASS certificate for the car; which wouldn’t be a
problem till you find out they are looking at applying
the current VSB14 & VSI8 standards to any car which
would come to them, and from what the AOMC has
indicated this would involve things like Retro Fitting
of Collapsible steering columns, Side intrusion bars
where not already fitted, Structural testing of chassis
and the list goes on.

Thanks for the updates Anth. I think it's time to write a letter to VicRoads to tell them to get stuffed.

Yeah, I had suspicions too. It seemed too good to be true.

Gents, don't forget they banned roll cages in cars and then went back on it after everyone complained.

Can we get a list of what the proposed changes are? It will make it easier to write to Vicroads and tell them what we think...

6 point cages can't be engineered for full reg in Vic still. I've been talking to a couple of engineers over the last month for my corolla and they've all said no on a 6 point, but yes to a 4 point "half cage" which I have very little interest in having only rear roll protection, might as well have nothing at all.

I've also heard rumors of a mass roadworthy audit for cars on the club plate scheme

I'm not sure mate, I'd contact the AOMC, see if they'll give it to you.

Here's the rest of the entry from the Classic Skylines newsletter and what they are doing about it. They have already contacted the AOMC with a list...
Quote:
This potentially runs into the thousands of dollars
for something as simple as a Brake upgrade between
Models (While staying in the Marque).
As it stands now the AOMC and Vicroads look to
have forgotten about us with cars past the 1960’s
on the CPS, after the seminar I put together an email
to the AOMC outlining some of their short comings
in support for our Membership base and some of
the ideas that the CSA Committee would like to see
brought to the discussion.
Some of those points are:
• A separate plate for Modified CPS eligible Vehicles
(even Expand SR to include more "Modern" higher
modified cars)
• Vehicles of ANY age eligible for the CPS should
not have to conform to Modern Testing and only be
Scrutinized using what was current at the time of
manufacture (Or Best Practice)
• VASS Inspections of CPS cars need to be kept
affordable regardless of the outcome of this upcoming
battle.
I will continue to follow up with the AOMC on this
matter, and the CSA Committee will continue to offer
our support to the AOMC and Vicroads when it comes
to shaping the changes to the CPS and work towards
the best outcome for all users of the CPS. If anyone
has specific questions or ideas get in touch with me
or Trav.

I can't agree with that comment.

There are numerous cars on full reg with multi-point weld-in ROPS.
(I have a good mate with an Engineered 260Z with a 383 Chev & multi-point ROPS - including door bars).
It depends on the Engineer you are dealing with...

As for the 'mass roadworthy audit' - it's just a rumor.
The AOMC has not had ONE report about 'mass auditing' happening, and VicRoads themselves deny any such dealings.
Can you imagine the shitfight that would happen if the understaffed VicRoads decided to conduct such a thing...?

It's a pity that so many 'stories' get bantered about as truth.

Lurch.

P.S. It's pretty hard to defect a car on a 'Permit'...
