Can anyone tell me what the gear ratios are for the 71B box from behind an LD28? How about from behind the petrol engines?
I did a bit of a google search, but just came up with pages of crap.

Weren't Z cars 5 speed?

FS5W71B

3.321 first
1.902 second
1.308 third
1.000 fourth
0.752 fifth

A 280ZX box, but also used on L20A and B's, L24S, L24E and L28E

European boxes have different ratios. Good luck trying to find one of those. All ratios were a little taller, but fourth's the same.

Australian delivered 240/260Z had the 2.9 first gear, only Australia & west Germany had these ratios as std.

later 71c stumpy have supposedly many upgrades over a 71b stumpy

would be great to have a database with all the gearing

The 71C stumpy is in D21 and later navaras etc.
They make cheap kit shift kits for them unlike for 71b boxes

71 b boxes came in three slighty different ratio sets, it is mainly first/second and third.
3.59
3.32
2.9
Was the first gear, depending on model it was fitted to in both car and truck range

Wide ratio
1st.. 3.592
2nd.. 2.246

5th.. 0.882

Mid ratio
1st.. 3.321
2nd.. 2.071
3rd.. 1.308
4th.. 1.000
5th.. 0. .803

Close ratio
1st... 3.062
2nd.. 1.858
3rd.. 1.308
4th.. 1.000
5th.. 0.773 or 0.745


We didn't get a 2.9 first gear but you can by swapping the input and counter drive gears from a 'close ratio' 5 speed into a 'mid ratio'
