Hi,
I posted this question on Aussie bluebirds but had no answers so will try here.
I am currently in the process of making coilovers for the front of my bluebird wagon using the hsd sleeve kit welded onto skyline r31 struts.
I was just wondering why people that have done this before have used kyb brand z31 strut inserts?
Could I use a cheaper brand?? Or even just use the r31 inserts that came with the struts I bought?
The inserts i have are peddlers ,and with the sleeve welded in place seem fine for length etc.
Any help on this matter would be great.
Cheers.

Buy the best shocks you can afford

They are the one part that you have to spend good money on.

Pedders=Crap
Standard r31=Crapper
Monroes=Up there with the worst you can buy

KYB monotube = good, well priced shock
Koni Reds= Little more expensive but well worth the extra
Koni Yellow=relatively expensive. Like koni red but adjustable. Not really worth it for the street.

KYB Z31 is good value @ around $250 a pair.
They are better rate than the R31 KYB & a better fit than the R31 as they are around 15mm shorter.
This allows a 200 mm free length spring to fit perfectly.
Also you need to take into consideration the number of coils & diameter of the wire to select the correct
bump stop length. You will need the correct gland nut to suit the R31 tube.
