Yeah my Dad is really good with this kind of thing, pity the skills didn't transfer to the next generation!

I really like that engine bay bro. The L-series colour scheme really makes everything pop.
What size is that radiator and fan? It looks BIG.....or maybe ist just the photo that makes it look big??
Are you going to have to do much chopping to mount it??

Hey mate

Yeah the damn thing is too big :x

We measured it about 3 times, checked the measurements from PWR but it's not going to work. Problem is the water pump on the L20B, it sticks out too far and the thermal won't fit.

May have to break out the angle grinder, didn't want to but may not have much choice

Thought about modifying the assembly so you can fit an Davis-Craig EWP on it?

I always thought this blank off plate in this thread looked pretty cool.
Sort of looks like a jap rising sun.
Would be pretty cheap to get an old waterpump machined down.

The fan PWR have supplied is 87.8mm thick at the motor.
The one we use on our SR rads is only 62.1 mm thick.

This will give an extra 25.7 mm clearance which may do the trick.

Hmm more food for thought thanks Baz

Dad is determined to try and put the fan on the outside though, not sure if that is going to work personally

Spal fans are non reversible. The blades are optimised for one direction only.
The motors are optimised for one direction of rotation.
This is one major reason why spal fans out perform all other thermo fans.

You are not the first to find out that the PWR rads are not the correct fit for a 1600.
They are not a big radiator really. Its the way it is designed. We use a larger but thinner core
on our rads.

We have some 51mm thick 16" spals designed for mounting in front of the core.

These are on special for $120.

Not much happening, lots of fiddly stuff but the parts are flowing in so we've got a backlog of stuff to do

After assessing the PWR radiator we've decided to stick with it as we can't reverse it and it's too nice not to use. So I've bought an electric water pump, it's a better solution, gives back more power to the engine and the alternator is more than up to the job of running it

Current pictures with the water pump removed - yes it is for sale if you want it :)

Also got new CV's boots as the old ones are split. I can work out (obviously) how to remove it from the diff and hub (centre-punched it so I can line it back up later) but can someone tell me how to remove the shaft below. I read in a workshop manual you need to compress it to pop some ring or stopper out......

What are you going to use to block the old water pump?
