Hi All,

I have recently rescued a 1981 Stanza from the wreckers from an uncle of mine. It has been in the family since new. My uncle repainted the car (original cream colour) in the early 90's. In 1996 he decided to replace the timing chain and for one reason or another never finished it. It has been sitting in his garage since then untouched. It is completely original right down to stereo, 13 inch rims etc....

It has the standard L16 and 4sp combo. Except the engine is partially dismantled. It has only travelled approx 110,000km's. I can not find a single piece of rust in the car.

I really want to do the car up, but unfortunately 3 kids and a full time job doesn't allow the time at the moment. I am thinking of leaving it is my shed until time allows!

What would this be worth? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

If it was as clean as you say and low kmed with the motor apart and not regoed I'd probably say 2.5-3 only because it's a stanza I love them but not the most desirable of models.

That's more better!
Yes, a very clean example.
Chuck it on ebay with no reserve and you'll find out what it's worth :chaching: :chaching: :chaching: :chaching:

The two big things with Datsuns are rust, and roadworthiness. If it doesn't have any rust, and is ready to go on the road, then it is worth a couple of grand to the right buyer. If it fails on both counts (particularly rust) then it's worth very little.

Yours certainly looks like a relatively rust-free example... keep it away from water lest it completely dissolve, fix the motor (an easy enough task and something you can do on a very small budget as it is mostly just hands-on work), find a matching set of steelies, stick a set of whitewalls on it and enjoy it.

Got that right with the rust and roadworthiness.

In my recent hunt for a 1600 i found a couple that had great work done on the engine and drive lines but the bodies were stuffed. I just walked away each time as repairing them costs big money and at the end of the day its a Datsun, not a HT Monaro GTS.

Some people out there really do over estimate how much their Datsuns are worth.
