I have heard of a trick to clear out an old carby by revving the engine and then blocking the intake with a handfull of rag. This supposedly sucks all the built up gunk out of the carb.

Does this work and is there any potential for damage if I do it?

Cheers

Only if you lose the rag!
I'm at this point myself.
However, I have a carby rebuild kit so I'm going to strip it down and start again!

I have a separate weber carb that I am planning on rebuilding soon but I might give this a go in the meantime.

Thanks

It depends how bad the carb is. I do it all the time ( with the palm of my hand not a rag ) and works about 60% of the time.

Derek Hobbs from Datsport suggested I do this. Fixed my problem of terrible throttle response.

Itll either clear out the jets or block them even worse.
Its worth a try, if it does get worse tho just take out all of the jets and clean them...
