Post subject:  First (and hopefully not last) Datsun

Good evening all,

I am the proud owner of a 1973 Datsun 1200. I found it in great shape and am really excited as i have wanted a Datsun for some time and think i have found a really nice one. It appears all original apart from the Coil which is not electric.

Couple of minor (I think) problems:

-Speedo stopped resently. Owner said something about the oil the spring sits in has become more of a wax over time?

-All lights work but when the headlights are put into the first postion park lights and head lights come on and some for the second postion.

-The seat slide rails are a bit sticky? the seats are really really hard to move to a new postion.

Well thats prety much the bad parts. The good is:

-It has new paint with no rust and body is stright.

-New carpets and dash cover.

-Carb has resently been rebuilt.

-Pretty good sound system.

So thats pretty much the car. I am very much a noob at Datsuns but i did load of research before buying this car.

Hi Slim
I am sure you will enjoy the Datsun experience.
Re the Headlights:

In a Datsun 1600 you control the headlights by setting the indicator stalk forward or away from you. Try flicking the indicator stalk forward and back to see if it cuts out the low beams when you switch the light switch to the first position.

Im sure i will too.

I have pulled the switch out to the first postion while a friend stood in front, the head lights and park lights came on. When i pulled tot the second postion all the light switched off for light half a sec the both the head nad park lights came on again.
