Post subject:  Hydraulic Handbrake

Gday

Just wondering if putting in a hydraulic handbrake requires Engineering for rego?

I'm in Canberra, I know each state is different, just wondering what experiences others have had?

Thanks.

If you are changing the braking system to something it never came out with from the factory, then I cant see how you would not need an engineers certificate.

Used to be the case in NSW that if the handbrake was part of the existing system it would not pass for rego so a few people i was rallying with used to run a seperate set of calipers and use a completely seperate system. From memory a master cylinder similar to what would be used on a trailer was mounted on the handbrake bracket. This solved the rego problem, but, was also 15 years ago so rules no doubt have changed.
