The idea of a CAMS licenced club is a good one and would be a great opportunity for many people to try out certain events like drift days, mokohana's, hill climbs, etc in a controlled way. Although the cost of becoming a CAMS club is etremly high from the best of my knowledge.

An example of a recently started car club which is CAMS licenced is Club PSI. When this club was started there was a different method taken to the conventional registration of a CAMS club. PSI chose to become a Affilate of the Mitsibishi GSR/EVO club. This meant that it was cheaper for members and they still got the CAMS benifits, in some cases more with the addition of the GSR/EVO club.

This is a good idea to start the club by affiliating with another established club in order to reduce costs and still maintain benefits.

The downside as it could be viewed as is that if a club is affiliated it must adhere to the rules of its parenting club.

for example

"The association (CLUB PSI) shall be a non profit organisiation controlled by these rules and affiliated under the Mitsibishi GSR/EVO club of the Confederation of Australian Motorsport limited. ("CAMS")

The association (PSI) shall adhere to all rules and guidelines set out by the Mitsibishi GSR/EVO club and its constitution.

Taken from the Club Performance and Silvia Imports Constitution.

Therefore events must be logged with CAMS. i beleive this also means that Street Cruises must be logged not only with CAMS but also the Police in order for CAMS to allow the cruise to go ahead. I think that is the rules. This is what i have read and been told so not too sure.

Sorry for the post. its simply stating the start of facts and things to think about before the club gets started

ok guys ive been in contact with the Nissan Datsun Car Club of SA, they seem to think it is a good idea, now the two options that i will put forward and ones i have been discussing with the club are that a) we become an affiliate club, have our own name etc, or b) a couple of us start up a committee at NDCCSA to specialize in cruizes, social events and the like

ive also been invited to the club meeting, which is held at the CAMs state office next week to discuss this issue with the whole club, i would like say, 2 0r 3 people to come along for support as well. im also giving Peter a call at the club today to also discuss this further so ill keep you guys posted! :D

Ive been phoning around and to get a CAMS licence for a club of about 30 people it is around the $1000 mark, but this means that ALL club members are covered by insurance when you do track days and cruises because if you have a crash while on a cruise or at the track the insurance can get a bit messy and pain full but with CAMS they cover it all.
so, our only options are... Join the NDCCSA and perhaps start up a committee to do all tht things we want to do such as cruises and track days... the other option is the obvious one, start up our own club get our own CAMS cert and do our own thing.
Ive been speaking to Eddie from Eddies Auto Electrical on Golden Grove RD and he is keen to join and bring a few mates along as well as giving us some sort of sponsorship!!!
plz post thoughts..

we could source out a few sponsors to keep the cost down....

possible....
Grand Auto
Datsport
Maddat
Nisswreck
etc etc...

theres plenty of related companies that we could request sponsor ship from....

Im up for either option....joining NDCCSA or starting a "Datsun Club"

Count me in.

I agree with the idea of joining the NDCCSA and then forming a sub-commitee to organise our own section of the club. It takes away the enormous hassle of forming a club from scratch.

yer you are right ders, it will be hard to start our own club but i think it would be worth while, having said that Flubber, Flubber2 and i are going to the NDCCSA meeting to talk business on the issue with them.
