Well im on the hunt for some better front shocks.
Who knew koni reds would seem like rubbish vs bilstein b6 rears.

Id like to get some bilsteins to match but struggling to find info on their insert body sizes.
So going by gabriel shocks site was comparing the extended and compressed length vs the 240z shocks.

We know mr2 aw11 shocks work and vw rabbit, vb-vr cimmodore.

Im wondering if any one knows the insert diameter size and length for tge following cats:

1987 vw jetta
Porsche 944

If the bilstein insert fits I might be in luck. Otherwise any other cars I can look from?
Bmw?
Cheers

Dunno about non-Datsuns, but 200B & 240K use the same size insert even though the struts are different.

Another possibility is to get your reds rebuilt by Toperformance in Trade Place, Vermont. They can modify them to suit you.

Shorten the struts & use the KYB AGX as in our race struts.
Hailest is using these on his SR

Whats the id of the 200b strut tube? Or the od of the z cartridge?

Found there are 2 types of aw11 inserts but varying answers on which to use.
So I prefer to know size.

Saw vn commodore ones on sale at supercheap. Monroe gt gas too.

If you want bilsteins, z31 can be had pretty cheap from the states. for example; http://www.eshocks.com/bil_veh.asp?Mode ... &SubChar=Q
perhaps someone can shed some light on whether turbo or no turbo are more suitable?

That was the plan jk. Looking for possibly shorter than z31 inserts. Rabbit or ae101 rolla ones even. Just hard for people to confirm insert body lengths and diameters.

The old Monroe catalogue had all that at the back. Dimensions including extended & compressed length for every insert & shocker they make. Handy for any car sold in Australia. Don't know if that info is available on line but I'd try all the big manufacturers- Bilstein, Koni, Spax, KYB, Gabriel, etc.
Hope this helps.....

Nup they dont list any more. Gabriel only list extended and compressed height.
I know I need t2 bodied insert.

Unlees someone has a list from an old book.

I know baz has shocks but after getting bilsteins b6 in the rear of the stanza they are miles ahead of any other shock I had ever owned in any car.

The old ones will be "non-rebuildable" for one of two main reasons:

not repairable / not economical to repair
shop wants more sales / makes more from sales / salesperson makes money from sales but not repairs
