Hey all, got a 1600 and I bought a tacho dash for it, wired it all up correctly (signal, earth, power and light) and it all works, problem is once it gets to 3500rpm it slows down and stops reading correctly, the car is squealing but the tacho is reading 3500 rpm, all connections are soldered and insulated. Brand new coil and terminals and no shorts or any signs of faulty wires

Any tips on what to do? Is this a common problem?

Max,

hey mate, i had that problem twice, once was because i had one of the pins in the wrong plug on the tacho, mine is for 4 - 8 cyl, is yours the same? it may be something simple like that, the other time it happened because of the alternator, we disconnected one of the lights in the cluster and the alternators "exciter" wasnt working and it kept dying, the tacho went first always and everything else will soon follow if it is this, hope you can find out what is wrong with it mate

regards, kalani.

sounds like it needs to be programmed. does it have a sequence to set t 4, 6 or 8 cyl?

read the destructions on how to program or google it.

car is squealing? as in belt squealing? won't affect this at all.

Hi guys thanks for thd reply! I didmt make myself clear enough sorry, the tacho I have is an original tach dash so there is no programing options. The issue thst was mentioned with the altenator could be thr problem as ive noticed that the charge light is always slightly glowing (is this sll relstive or another issue?) And when I said that the car was squealing I meant that it was at full rpm noy that it was literally msking a squealing sound! Ill make sure to be more clear!

Thsnks for the help fellas, ill tru an aftermarket tach today and see if thst works
