Hey,

I have done a search but i cant find anything relivant

I have a datsun 1600 with 205/60/13 hotwires on it and they sit right under (approx 4mm) the cup that holds the spring on my strut (not positive what kind of strut they are... im guessing bluebird or 200b) and at the moment i am trying to fit a set of 17inch rims of my brothers Civic on it cause i can get them really cheap...

My problem is that the rolling diameter is slightly bigger 205/40/17 and they touch the cup  i have tryed a 5mm spacer but still no go... would it be safe to use multible 5mm spacers? or could you nick a groove out of the cup with the angle grinder? :?

I have looked into getting some r31 struts from datsport but I would like to see if there is a way around it with the ones i have now :D

Thanx, any help appreciated

Dont cut it. Thats a Nigger rig!

Honda wheels are plentiful but need big spacers(maybe need longer studs also) to get the wheel from hitting the strut. If it hitting the Cup of the spring perch the wheel is to tall.
I suggest getting coil overs to spend on to get them cheap wheels. Overall it will come out the same(price)
Just do it right. As people in your area.

I always like the Simmons wheels you guys have. Now they dont make them in 15in. Maybe go to a 16 in Simmons. But I thought 15in were always fine on a 510. personally 17s are a bit big for me.
I think the plus in inch rule is perfect.

Bang it in a bit with a hammer - works every time..
also use spacers until u have cleared it.

i may be terribly off track here but are not the honda wheels 4x100 and your datsun taking 4x114.3?

*Not all Honda wheels are 4x100PCD, some like the later preludes are 4x114.3.
*do NOT cut the spring seat!!!
*donot use any more than the max 5mm legal spacer.
*do not EVER use multple splacers, all the do is allow more (dangerous) wheel to hub movement. bad for rotors due to flex of the whole unit, bad for safety because it allows loading of the studs, which could MORe easily break them/one of.

so...
a) get different wheels.
or
b) get coil over conversion - height adjustable.

If you are really dead keen to fit these outrageous 17" hoops, have a close look where the fouling occurs.
It MAY be possible to remove a section of the spring cup to provide clearance, then weld in a section of sheet to retain the strength of the cup.
In my opinion, I think 17" is just plain too big and the tyres you need to make it all work without surgery will be Mega bucks

wow 17's 18's they would look huge. only problem is where do you find a tyre that can be painted on a rim. hehehehe

The sad thing is, its becoming harder and harder to find a selection of over the counter rims that have a rear wheel drive offset and suit a datsun stud pattern.

Pretty much every car that rolls out of Tempe tyres in sydney has a set of spacers on there with a set of front wheel drive offset wheels.

I will be doing the same thing with my 17's on my 180b coupe, and im aware handling will be a problem (worked fj20T so im looking for straight line power and low speed sideways), yes I would rather have rear wheel drive offset wheels, but in the end I dont want to pay the extra money to get a set made up...

If I had a car that handled (1600 with L20..) then I would add TRX rims and be happy with that.
