Thanks again for the kudos guys - I haven't been very active in the datto scene but my car has slowly been getting to a point where I'm happy with it so thought it was time to share. Hope to see you round the traps and on the forum again soon Nick. |

Nick, how is the gearbox going? |

The gearbox is doing the job Jason, though it still has that snick into 3rd gear it seems to still go into gear under power. I'm not pushing it - I should get back up the drags in the next few weeks, either mid June after the Winternats or mid July after the Qld championship round, I'll let you know - I need some new rear tyres though, you couldn't point me in the direction of some cheap 225/50-15 street tyres? |

Legend! Love this build more than almost anything here due to the fact its a budget datto build If you havent tried a later SR or 71C box yet, you might need a cut and shut Rb25 box to make full use of the power and cant remember if you had an LSD but I would also look into cut and shutting a toyota w58 box they have silky smooth synchros that you can bang in. |

Thankyou d! Yes a more modern gearbox would certainly be a great help - unfortunately (like all those slipping clutches) they work FINE on the street! Once this box is completely shagged I will upgrade, I hope the rest of the car hasn't rusted away by then. However I won't be pursing any more power and as it stands I wouldn't bother going back to the track without slicks so I think "120" mph is a good place to stop for a L series street car. Cheers |

Decent mph! my daily does 12.9 @110 with 2.0 60ft, so theres a heap left in the stanz with some traction. Maybe you need to borrow a engine off youre bro? |

Thanks Dan I would love to have a 3/4 chassis Stanza with a Liberty 5 speed that could handle that power! But if I was to go to a methanol engine I would still use the L20b and believe that in a maximum effort drag application 700hp is achievable, which would get a drag-weight Stanza into the 8's! |

There is already an Isuzu engined Gemini doing that, have yet to see someone really have a go at a BIG hp drag L4. |

Update: I tried some Redline Shockproof in the gearbox which definitely helped the synchros, and made a quick decision to head to the drags again last saturday (1 year and 2 days since last time!). With the exhaust still up and 22psi (the most I have actually tuned for as the ECU runs out of zones at 20) ran 12.7@117.7 on a 2.0 60' and a big pedal in 2nd as it actually stepped out towards the wall. I unbolted the exhaust at the dump flange and let it make 25psi, ran 12.11@122 and then 12.10@123, on 225 Falkens, 2.0 60', revving to 6500. Had to slip the clutch on the launch to get that 60'. The old L didn't seem to mind that boost (loves E85), its running great, I still think the tuneup is pretty safe, but street tuning is getting difficult at that boost level. I guess 11's on true street tyres might be achievable?

Video of the 12.10@123. The tyres are 225/50-15 Falken ZE912 at 20psi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUOp4BumXyw |

Cheers guys. Its been a tough year, we lost mum to cancer. She was never into cars but she always supported her sons efforts with whatever we were doing, I know she listened many times to my frustrations about stuff I was doing with cars over the years. Life is short, so you gotta just go after your vision. Mum left me some money, so for the first time ever I can actually think about doing something 'nice' for the car and not have to scratch for the money or justify it, so my current plan is to finally do up a nice cylinder head and try a set of slicks and see how far into the 11's it can go. That's the plan anyway, and we know what can happen with plans Mum might not be around anymore but she left me the means to follow my vision. She did so much for us and we will all miss her greatly. So give your mum a hug! |
