Starting a project on a 200b, Decided mostly everything I'm going to do bar the diff!

Going to be running a S14 SR20det 5 speed (Haven't decided which year s14 yet either)
Which diff fits well in 200B and handles the power of the SR nicely?

Cheers!

Or a 910 bluebird (live axle) lsd and use the trailing arms too and you can fit the rear sway bar from the 910

What are your plans for the car? A friend of mine with an R31 drift car reckons the R31 LSDs are terrible for that. I've never used one personally but that's what he's told me. H190 LSDs from a series 3 Bluebird aren't particularly common but they are around, the benefit of this is the housing bolts straight in. Depending on your intentions you could also consider a larger ute diff, Mazda B1600, Ford Courier, Hilux etc. If you measure the length of your diff and find a housing the right length you won't have to shorten the housing or axles, and with the above three you can pretty much pick your ratio.

And just to complicate things there's always the option of using an independent rear suspension setup (from a SSS or early 4-door) with an R180 or R200 diff. As far as I know the mounting points are all there even though the Aussie assembled 200Bs had a live rear axle. More work, but depending on what you want to do it may be good.

Mounting points aren't there, you'll need to do an entire floor pan swap or at least have the mounts cut from the IRS car. Plus it's a sh*t IRS setup anyway so there's no point, if you wanted to go down that path you'd be better off raiding an R33 or something.

Cheers everyone for their input, intentions for the car is have a nice clean cruiser but obviously have a fair bit of power so after a strong set up! Ill defiantly have a look into the ute diffs, but everyone seems to refer the 31s and their no worries to get so ill check them out to. Don't think I can bothered going down the IRS path lol!

Cheers!

R31/VL/etc are known for having rubbish LSDs and in my experience can be quite noisy.

H190 is difficult to get an LSD for at all.

I'll go against the grain and suggest a Hilux, the extra work will reward you 5x over.

Ive got a 78 in mine with a 4.11 lsd great diff never had a problem with it shifting weight quickly is a big killer of diff's that's why they flog out in commo's falcons ect. Not really a problem in a lightweight datto :D

They aren;t as bad as people think, mine lasted about 3 years before it started to spin the inside wheel on hard corners, there certainly are better options out there but are expensive {kazz or harrop true-trac}. i have recently had a full spool fitted being a track car so should be interesting to compare the two, also a bit lighter which is a bonus.

I have available a couple more of H190 LSD that fit the bluey and can also use the alloy h190 carrier depending on the power output, with alloy carrier the H190 is only 5kg more than a cast iron h165 according to Errol Smith (Feral) oz datsun community leader. I would go for IRS though if its close to bolt on but using the short nose R200 for availability compared to the long nose then you will never look back.

Speak to most rally guys and they will frown apon a alloy housing because they distort. Not much point saving weight if it were to become more unrealible.

As for lsd , nismo items are 4 pinion and most other std ones are 2 pinion. I used a 720 ute 4.6 ratio in my bluebird which was 2 pinion and seemed to hold up alright which was cheap and in unknown condition.

Rally guys are tough on their gear but a fair point and cast iron is still a good size diff for the H190 and lighter than a Borgy.
IRS would be nice, I used to really love my 180b coupes handling.
