You can use the 5 speed from any other car that had an l series engine. - some 180bs and 200bs had 5 speeds. - nissan bluebird series 1 or 2. - 240k. - 260z (often more expensive). - I think some stanzas had 5 speeds as well, although these may be dogleg 5 speeds.

The easiest to find and most cost effective will probably be a nissan bluebird. The z boxes are probably the most desirable cause they are close ratios but can also get pretty expensive. The 240k would be the next best bet for ratios.

All of them should mate straight up.

good luck.

They don't bolt onto an L-series engine, so you'll need to get creative with modifying and swapping bellhousings.

There's a "how-to" somewhere in the References / FAQ section.

The only L-series boxes you don't want are stanza and R30 skyline - these are physically shorter gearboxes

good point, whilst these boxes will bolt up to the engine the standard tail shaft will be too short. I have heard that the 240k boxes are longer than the standard 180b boxes. Therefore requiring shortening of the tailshaft. I don't know if anyone can confirm this or if it's rubbish.
