Hi all i have got my l20 running again with some side draft 40 mikuni,s. My car war running well with a 32/36 dvga weber and extractors timing was spot on.

I have since fitted headers and the side drafts as mentioned and it idles ok, sounds a little rough haven't stuffed a round with them to much yet.

Getting to the point, when i go to rev it up it splutters a bit, flames and pops it has revved up on occasion but Ive shut it down as i am still sorting out linkages (jamming).

My thoughts it could be damaged mixture needles or do i need to play with jets....

have thought of buying a rebuild kit....

anyone had experience with these carb's ?

Get your linkages sorted first.
Use a center pull cable & set them up similar to the old factory alfa carbs.

You cannot reliably tune side draught carbs until the carbs are synchronised perfectly.

For some years now I have refused to tune side draughts using levers & rods.
They will NOT stay in tune.

As Baz said get them close as possible in sync
set the timming
make sure the jet blocks are tighten down as they can back out due to vibration.

I have Mikunis and I love them.
Find a toyota RG guy he'll know how to tune them up better. main 130 air 160 should be close enough to get running

Backfiring and popping is usually a lean mixture

That's true, but poor sync will give the same effect.

get in contact with him, and you'll get the best setup available. No Questions asked. If I get back to Goolwa and find the linkage kit I'll sell you the one I had made years ago but only used for a few weeks until I rolled the car.

Cheers
Jordan
