Hey guys

Not sure if this should be posted in interior or driveline
1970 1600 currently running L18 with bluebird 5 speed behind it and a centre console in the cab. (not sure from what)
Im wanting to replace the interior carpet BUT I plan to eventually put an sr20det engine and box in the car. What I want to know is, will the location of the shifter be roughly in the same place for both boxes. I don't want to get stuck cutting out carpet for bluebird shifter and mounting centre console in the cab only to have to move it later on and possibly have holes showing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Daniel

Hi mate, from what i recall the SR box line up exactly the same.

To confirm though i would call Barry from Datsport to discuss the matter as he would be best to have the final say.

Comparing a bluebird box FS5W71B to a sr box FS5W71C.

Total length 790 mm to 840mm
Bell Length 350 mm to 350mm
Sandwich plate
to end length 440mm to 490mm.

So sr box is 50 mm longer and shifter sits 50mm farther back

measurement from sandwich
plate to shifter 395mm to 445mm.

Hi Danial
As bluebird68 says , the SR box shifter is further back than bluebird. I did have all the measurements some where as i had to redo mine. Also is/was your 1600 an manual or auto to start with , if manual you will have to spread the tunnel out a little to make the the SR box fit. I think Datsport had fitting instructions forSR box on there web site at one stage also to give you an idea .

p.s i hear yours is due to head to paint shop shortly
