Hey Guys,

I am in the process of ordering full exhaust and headers from Kameari in Japan and am trying my best with the language barrier. I have been told that they will fit the stock L16 on the 510 however they are strangely not compatible with the original gearbox (I have been told they will fit the HR30 box). My question is, how different in size are these two gearboxes? The system is pretty pricey and I don't want to be chopping it up too much, and if the physical dimensions aren't too different I will roll the dice and take the chance.

Cheers,

-- ben

Some more info I got...

"We have received word back and it looks like the transmission is the HR30 which is the L20 transmission not the one from the FJ20. Anyhow, they have told us that the standard 510 transmission is a bit wider and therefore it is in the way of the design of the header and muffler setup"

Would I be right in saying that the L20 transmission is a short transmission, hence even if I did run that box (I am planning to convert to 5-speed too) I would need to modify the drive-shaft? Fk knows why they would design an exhast/headers for the stock car, stock motor but different gearbox that a very small percentage of cars are running.

It is because the original 1600 transmission has the flat square bottom plate, which is wider at its lowest point.
The later B type boxes ie Mr/HR30 Stumpy, or the longer Bluebird/240K etc, are all rounded tucked in bottoms.

Yes they are pricey, but they do work very well.
Get it ceramc/heat coated, inside and out.

Those Kameari extractors look the bomb, and for nearly $2k they'd want to, let alone the cost of the ret of the system + shipping. I have to ask the question as to why you wouldn't get a set made locally?? We have some of the best exhaust builders in the would in this county who could no doubt undercut this by a county mile and have it made to suit your current setup. Not to mention sizing and arrangement of your choosing.

Stainless is nice, but it's a Datsun with a non-crossflow head. Call me old fashion but I'd have the factory heat shield and my extractors heat wrapped to prevent too much radiant heat exposure to the inlet runners. Rendering the only benefit of stainless (that it looks good) redundant.

Seriously go local and save yourself the head aches.

Regards
Jordan.

I am purposely building the car with as much retro Japanese tuner gear that I can actually. In saying that, I currently live in NZ where the options are vastly inferior to Aus (I am from SA originally). But yeah, pricey for sure and probably much cheaper options out there.
