Post subject:  what do i have??

Hi guys
hoping someone can help me out with identifying these half shafts
I know one end is a yoke type but everything I look at is flange 4 bolt so finding it difficult to be sure what I have
I am looking to change them for cv axles. It for a buggy so Don't have to worry about length of axle too much as I can adjust the double a arms.
Ok so how do I attach a photo

Gearbox end?
If you mean axles the R30 skyline has an R180 diff and cv axles.
You will have to change the diff or at least the buttons inside the diff though as the axles clip in instead of bolt in like u have now...

think I'm screwed because I have the yoke type, so can't bolt an adapter to it
Know anyone you has a couple of side flanges for sale off a dead diff???

Correction, the halfshaft you have is more likely from a 240z/260z R180.
Didnt see it was the yoke type till now (too many ports that night).
You can still change the diff or just the internal buttons to suit R30 clip-in cv's (unless its welded) or buy the flanged output stubs and use a bolt-on adaptor type cv (not the best design IMO)...

Hi Nick
I think you are right, I just can't find any pictures of the yoke type to confirm
Ok, this is out of a buggy and there is no diff, just a straight shaft with sprocket and brake disk welded/bolted on, not sure how this was manufactured but probably scavenged the parts out of the diff and threw the rest. It has double A-arms hanging onto the original 4 bolt datto hub with the axle in between. Would you be able to direct me to some info on how to install the internal buttons to hold in the axle?? What to search for, i'm a bit of a newby to all this kit
Many Thanks
Brett

If you have no diff then it might be alot easier to just buy a circlip type R180 from an R30 skyline though.

Google "260z R180 cv axle" as ive just done. Lots of info on the Z-car specific forums. Alot of it is american based though so be carefull...

Hi Mate
Yeah I did some reading today and looked at changing the internal button to clip in type
2 problems
1. seems the R30 axles are rare as rocking horse excrement
2. The bolt in button looks like it has been welded inside the straight shaft so without starting from scratch I'm stuck with bolt in
I will see if I can get the bolt in stub cut off and welded to a mating plate for a CV axle, I've seen pics of axles with no stubs, so will need to find something like that
Any ideas??
Thanks for all your help
Cheers
Brett

Get a subi wrx sti r180, these have clip in shafts and have cv joints standard, but best of all they bolt straight in where the Datto diff comes out and they are LSD , just swap the input flanges over. If you want Nissan style cv's then you can track down s13 na output shafts as these have r180's too but they are short nose type.

Yep I put the sti diff in my Zed, it is a cheap and low mileage alternative for an LSD. Not sure about the CV shaft strength mind you. The shafts are very thin in comparison with s13 shafts for instance. Keep in mind the sti is AWD so probably only receives half the torque of a 2wd?

Also the sti runs 27 spline shafts I think.

BTW, I have a set of shafts and CV's from the sti if you're interested.

There is a guy on gumtree selling lots of r30 parts including diffs in gladstone Queensland at the moment.
