Or Holden had no idea what they were doing. Hard to say which is more likely.

In other news, I pushed this again today.

Yeahhhhh.....
So today i got under the car and had a look at the fuel filter and it looked somewhat like how i expected it too...

Yeah so there is definitely rust in the fuel tank, not such a surprise as i was told this when i bought the car.
So i changed the filter and didnt have much look, it ran better for a while but we took it for another drive and it broke down once again, we managed to get it home with a little less pushing this time which was a relief.
Alistair thought it would be funny to take a photo of me broken down trying to get it running instead of helping!! haha

I was trying to avoid flushing out the tank, but it looks like this is what ill be doing. I will flush it out and treat it so there's no longer any rust inside.

Those cedric blues!

Bodgy buggers hanging out by the schools like that.
Did you push it down hill this time????

No never down hill, that would be too easy.
Also thats not outside a school.

Anyway i pulled the tank out, WOW....
after i drained the fuel i shook it around and it rattled.. i poured out so much sediment and then filled it up with nuts and bolts and gave it a good shake around.
Then took it to the car wash and spend about 20 minutes pressure washing out the inside.
Then i put a sealant kit through it.

Heres some of the sediment that came out, there was alot i am actually surprised it ran!

The tank is now sitting upside down and the sealant is curing, i will try and put the tank back in in the next couple of weeks.
Would really like to be able to make an appearance to the classic japan day!

Also whilst jacking up to take the tank out, i noticed this.

So finally a positive update.
Well after sealing the fuel tank and removing a ridiculous amount of rusty sediment, I bolted the tank back in and was still having troubles...
the fuel pump was making a noise as though it was starving for fuel, the same one it had previously been making. One thing I didn't do was clean out the metal fuel line. So at this point it was either the pump or blocked line. I put a hose from the pump straight into a jerry can and the fuel pump had no problems so this ruled that out. I then unbolted the metal line and blew it out a bit. I then bolted it back up to the tank and blew through the line as I imagine this would have cleaned out anything stuck in the fuel pick up. After bolting it all back together the fuel was no longer a problem!
I set the idle mixtures etc and the car is purring. It starts so easily and just loves it.

So I finally got to go for a drive without having to push it somewhere! Looks like it will be coming to classic japan after all!

Very cool :) with new tyres and an ability to drive more than one kilometre without breaking down the Cedric won't know what to do with itself!

one of my previous kb10s I bought from a local wrecker had his grandson do a number on the original tank with the forklift tusks angled right through it. I put what I thought was a clean tank in and had the same issues. Beyond that pretty much all datsuns will never have issues.

My neighbour, a US ex-pat voived out when I mentioned "datsuns" they where the best cars in the US they just go and go with nothing done to them, unlike the locally made heavy thirsty tanks.

That J series would be so reliable now with fuel issues gone, even the four cylinder J series dont have an alloy rocker cover

Draws power from the flux capacitor so you can charge your phone etc.
Nah it takes power from the lights, used as a trailer plug. So someone out there has a trailer with an appliance plug on it.
