Hey guys, I'm planning to rebuild a 240k 5speed for use in my 1600. My question is can it be done at home or is it too specialised? Are the bearings off the shelf or where is the best place to get these from? Are new syncros avaliable if so where do I get these from?
Thanks,
Chris.

All I want is less to do, more time to do it and higher pay for not getting it done.

All the gear is available from SW motorsport off the shelf.
It is a fairly hard job. Would be nice to get someone to show you how to do it for the first time.

Lots and lots and lots of things to check when rebuilding a 71b gearbox... Not a job for the beginner.

Do yourself a favor & obtain a 2.9 first gear 260Z box - the ratio's in a 240K box are HORRIBLE.
Use the syncros & hubs from the K box to convert the 260Z to brass syncro rings -this is the THE BEST specification for a 71b using production parts.
