Post subject:  head gasket symptoms?

Hi,
I have a datsun 521 with a j13 engine. It was found sitting in a paddock for 10 years and after I changed all fluids etc I got it going. Anyway after a few carb problems I got it running really well.
The problem is now it has started breaking down especially under load.
Other symptoms are,
Oil on dip stick seems really thin and grey ,oil change was only 30km ago so new.
Oil cap has a tiny bit ( pea size ) of custard looking stuff under it.
Started to blow white grey smoke when revved hard, fine at idle and running speed.
Is this a head gasket problem or worse?
Any ideas would be great.

Highly likely to be a head gasket, at least a breakthrough between the oil, water passage[s] and the combustion chamber.
As is typical with many Datsun/Nissan engines, contaminants in the cooling system accumulate at the lowest point of the head, cylinder #4.
You could try draining & flushing the coolant and treating the engine with Bars Leaks or similar, but even if it works it will only be a temporary solution.
I assume it has an iron head which should resist the corrosion whereas an alloy head may require welding to repair the rot.
Not a huge job to remove/replace the head being a pushrod engine.
You won't know the damage until you lift off the head :(
