Hi All,

My car has been off the road for a while now with a problem that has me stumped.

1. Performance has dropped off a bit
2. Fuel pump (EFI) is noisy
3. Surges going around corners

So my initial thoughts are this:

1. There is an issue with the fuel system
2. Surge tank is not filling correctly and around corners it runs out
3. Electrical issue

What I did:

1. Checked and re-checked the wiring
2. Yanked/shaked all of the wiring with the car running from the fuel loom to the engine harness. (All OK)
3. Brand new low pressure pump
4. Brand new low pressure filter
5. Brand new high pressure pump
6. Brand new high pressure filter
7. Brand new rubber fuel hoses
8. Ripped out the fuel tank and compressed air through the fuel lines to make sure there is no blockages

Where im at:

1. It's still F*&ked
2. Surging around corners

What im thinking:

1. Fuel pressure regulator. Do I replace it with a new one?

It's frustrating, the car has been running so well for a year now without a hickup, now I have no idea what it is.

Any thoughts?

Regards,.

Trent

Trent, which line from the factory fuel tank are you using to fill the surge tank (small one or the big one)?
What fuel level did you have (height) in the main tank??
What kind of noise is the high pressure pump making? Does it sound like it is cavitating/air?
Got any photos of your surge tank? Is it designed with the pickup for the HP pump as low as possible and if any air in the system gets into the surge it wont pick it up?
Sounds like you need another pair of eyes looking :D

Hey Nik,

I had a mechanic lend me his fuel pressure tester today. I'm thinking its the reg now.

1. Idle = 43PSI
2. Remove the small vacuum line and it should goto 37PSI. My one jumps to 60PSI

I ripped off the reg this arvo and the inlet manifold and maybe after 20 years of use it's carked it. Is there any way of testing these things off the car?

Regards,

Trent
