Hi all
I have a 1600 with a worked 2lt with twin 45s a a87 head with heaps of work and a 5 speed r31 gear box.
I have placed a 4.11 diff in the girl and it has so much pull in 4th and 5th this is gr8 for a Bathurst track lol
1,2,and 3rd just don't have the torque , I want a fast off the lights and a cherp in gear changes a little nasty street car lol
Can anyone give me some help on what diff ratio would do the job pls

Now that ive finally stopped laughing.
Try a 4.6 to 5.1 ratio diff for ultimate acceleration and a heavy duty clutch will help your 'cherps'...

It's just that your lingo and question made you come across as a bit of a newbie thats all.

A 4.11 diff is already a pretty good ratio for acceleration on the street.
Most people pick this or a 3.9 ratio so at first glance it seemed you were looking at modifying a part that didnt need it.
Only rally guys or drag racers who are focussed mainly on acceleration tend to go for 4.4 - 5.1 diffs.
Those sorts of ratio's on the street lead to problems like increased revs, noise and fuel usage when cruising at over 80kph (on the highway etc) aswell as making it hard to correct the speedo due to the rarity of the speedo pinion drives you will need to find to fit to your gearbox.

R31 gearboxes dont normally fit 2lt (L20B) 1600's, unless you have an Fj20 engine but even then thats rarely done.

Chirping gear changes dont really have as much to do with the diff ratio as it does your clutch and flywheel.
You could have the most engine power or torque to the wheels from changing the diff ratio but if your clutch slips it'll never grab and spin the wheels making them 'chirp'.
You can chirp quite fine with a dead stock L16 and 3.7 diff for example if you have a good clutch...

He probably has a mr30 box from behind a L2.4e, measure how long it is , should be around 660 mm compared to the r31 FS5W71C at around 775 mm .

You need a close ratio gearset, along with a higher diff, that'll give you what you are wanting.

I can supply you the c/r gearset, for that box.
For a 4.6 r180 diff, start hunting around wrecking yards for the front diff out f a 4x4 620 or 720 ute.
