Hey guys , my tachometer is bouncing around above 3000 rpm and the timing is bouncing around when checked . I have read up here and it sounds like the reluctor coil or module . The module had no electrical grease around it at all so could be cooked . Question is should I fix it ? On eBay they have a L series electronic distributor for around $200 , are they any good ? Has anyone tried them ? Are they compatible with hec175 coil ? Or should I fix my old one ? Thanks . |

Haven't checked lately (several years) but a new module used to be about $50. Easy to replace by yourself with a little knowledge. |

Not sure about now, you may be able to source them new now. But i, a couple years ago made a jig so i could rewind the coils to make them work again. I had the same dramas you do with the tach being all over the shop. And at that point i couldnt find any parts to resolve the issue. If you run into trouble let me know and ill fix yours up if you want. |

What car is it in? I had the same problem in my stanza for ages, i changed the "reluctor coil" and the module and still bounced a bunsh, i believe it may be something to do with the tacho not being designed for it, like you need some kind of resister of diode or something in the signal wire. I never fixed it, car was parted out before i bothered looking further into it |
