Thanks mate The Engine bay is up to the painting stage now so most of the stuff I put up has already been done, but I figure most you guys are like me and really enjoy reading peoples builds especially seeing photos. Some more photos of the painters firewall work Attachment:

So the idea of the engine bay was to clean it up as mentioned before but not to the point where it looks like a show car and looses its character if that make sense. I know a lot of this stuff has been done before but the painter and I have tried to come with some different touches here and there. Oval hole patched and top rail seam sections boxed out Attachment:

patched oval holes and smoothed out water bottle brackets etc. Going to run a custom cable to bonnet latch using the factory handle and position

Brake Tee mounts removed
Attachment:
washer jets mounts cut out a patched flush. Going to tack them inside the gutter and plan to have bottle under drivers guard. He also lead wiped this area to clean up the old rust repair that was done on centre firewall drain.

The painter has modified the bracket I made in order to move the radiator/intercooler abit closer(also mad it look neater) to the grill to free up more space between motor. Could just fit fingers between motor and thermo fans before, should be better now.He also made two 1/2 tube sections from sheet metal to cover up the intercooler pipe outlets and also to add some more strength. The Radiator/intercooler will be rubber mounted on the top and bottom Attachment:

Car was painted last Friday. The bodywork/paint was done by vintage motor garage, the owner Jonathan and his crew did an excellent job with the car and I couldn't be more happier with the end result. The guys are all perfectionist and dont cut any corners everything was done the right way first time round. Back to metal/ blasted hard to get areas Attachment:

Just got a call from Stewart Wilkins today telling me that the sr gearbox I have been lugging around from house to house for the last 10 years is ****. I dropped it of for a quick inspection just to make sure it was all good before installing but yer she rooted. So i'm going to have find another second hand gearbox in good condition that Stewart can work with as apparently to do a full rebuild which is what it needs is not cost effective. I spose the theory is to do a full/complete rebuild properly on a sr gearbox you'd be better off price wise upgrading to a stronger gearbox like a rb25? which I defiantly dont need.Next step with the car is to get her home and start installing fuel lines and brake lines and also sort out wiring before installing motor/gearbox Thanks Tim |

thanks mate it was the painters idea he did a great job.Originally when I cut out for the intercooler I had welded in thin pieces of sheet metal flat around the edges of the cut out section just to stiffen it up and take away the sharp edge. It did the job and looked ok but I was never happy with it.Been looking at your build over the last week mate, I'm up to your gauges install. Also big props for all the excellent body work you did on your car it was definitely alot of hard work I bet. I did some rust repair on the floor in my car ( no where near the skill level you have done) when I first bought it near the back seat and in the front corners. They were simple repairs and in spots where you can't see them but still it's tedious work especially welding it all up taking your time so the pieces don't heat up and warp as the metal is paper thin. Thanks Tim |

Great work going on here Tim, finally had the time to sit down and read the thread properly. Glad to see you didn't sell the datto while you took some time off from cars! Seen it happen all too often, better to just push them aside and get back to them when time/money/passion is back in your favour. Love that smooth firewall and intercooler cut-out detail, also the all-black motor looks tough as. |

Liking the little touches on this build. After watching the project binky series on youtube, I want to take your enthusiasm and upgrade the bonnet hinges on my 510 to something newer. If ever need inspiration and haven't seen project binky check it out on youtube. |

RB25 box would be nice, but cutting into that fresh paint job to modify the trans tunnel to make it fit is something I'm sure you don't want to do now.The bodywork is coming along beautifully |

They opened it up just so I good have a quick look. I then made the trek out to Windsor to drop it off a SW Motorsport. Stewart showed me my original gearbox and I mustn't of been listening to him when he rang me during the week but it turns out the main input shaft that houses all the gears was badly bent. In its past someone had been running some big HP or had been dumping the clutch hard at ever set of lights haha So yer to purchase another main input shaft and then the labour costs to strip and reinstall made it not worth rebuilding. Stewart's going to give the new gearbox a service to make sure everything is sweet, he's also going to give me a couple of dollars for the stuffed gearbox as he can use it for parts. Should be ready this Saturday and plan to paint it and bolt it up to the motor. Can't wait Thanks tim |

Few updates The painter has finished painting up all the car components in satin black we didn't want to use a gloss finish. Attachment:

Unbolted the old piece that was bolted to the front cross member and bolted up a new flat piece so my low profile jack sits flush when I lift the car up instead of getting caught in the low channel or having to use thin bit of ply. Will probably use a thin piece of rubber now so the jack doesn't scratch paint.

Also started mounting gauges and refitting digital dash. I got an ATL fuel gauge when i bought my fuel cell so I'm going to use it, as the digital dash does have a fuel input but its as a percentage. The second gauge will am going be a vdo boost gauge with vacuum reading. These photos are from mock up ill take some new ones of it finished when I'm at the factory.

Got my rebuilt gearbox this week all ready to be painted this weekend. Ordered all new bushing for front of car from Wilkins motorsport as my old Noltec ones have perished with out even being used. Also ordered some camber plates from Stewart and gave him my front struts so he can put new rubber bump stops as they were also ****. Thanks Tim |
