Hello team,

I have the older Maddat break setup i can't remember if its the 240k strut or the 200b strut but it has the S4 rx7 caliber.

I have pulled the 1600 out after 8+ years in storage.

Has anyone done the coilover conversion using a sleeve kit such as the datsport one ?

also is the a road legal conversion ?

Im tuning a SR20de in my 1600

Cheers

I've used the Datsport one. Welded it in. Worked perfectly for me.

Fantastic, thanks guys.

I think I'll pull the trigger of the datsport kit.

Did either of you shorten the strut ?

I didn't bother shortening my R31 strut.
Depends on how low you want to run the car. Also what kind of insert will fit. I'm running Z31's.
Probably best to speak to Baz at Datsport. He can tell you whether it's required for you application.

can someone explain how the top hat mounts? the kit comes with a pilot hole in the top so do I drill it out same size of the shaft? what if im using the original strut tops?

I'd be running a spacer between the strut top and spring hat. When you factor in camber angle, it means the spring hat will be resting on the side of the base of the strut top, not what you want taking the force of the suspension IMO.

You could also replace that spring setup for a single progressive rate spring, simpler and I would think better setup. Depends on what your use case & budget though I guess.

Caveat - I'm no suspension expert, these are just my thoughts.

Agree.
I noticed this too. As the strut goes through suspension travel, the camber changes. This means the top mount where the camber adjuster is and the spring mount will move relative to each other. It looks like these interfere?

He would be running a small spacer as attached in the photo probably hard to see in his picture. That's is a good setup but is relying on the camber top bush to rotate as well. It's a hard market out there no one wants to pay anything over 800 bucks for coilovers so you have to build to the bear minimum so people buy them. Can add a thrust bearing but adds couple hundred bucks on top of that.
