Post subject:  Light Switch removal (the whole switch)?
As above, I've done a heap of searches, but everything was about the knob on the end and not the switch itself. What do I need to remove if anything, to fully remove the switch from the dash?

I'm not at home at the moment, but I'm sure there wasn't a nut that I could see? I'll check again when I get home.

Do I need to take off the silver trim to reveal the nut?

You need to take the plastic dash fascia off or yes, that silver bit. They bolt to the dash frame behind that.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Just being cautious about tugging on parts for old cars as they might not be easily replaced.

You are better off taking the whole dash Fascia off. That chrome piece will break quite easily .It is glued and pinned to Fascia

So, I took the silver plastic bit off (before seeing the last post), which was glued in place, but it still didn't reveal the retaining nut. So the bottom line is as follows:

1. Remove the screws securing the steering column/ignition switch surround and remove.
2. Remove the screws securing the Dash Facia (instrument surround) and remove, being careful to pop out the turn signal globes complete. (this will now reveal the Wiper and Light Switches).
3. The switch lock nut/s can now be removed. The switch has 80-100mm 'pig tail' to the connecting plug that simply pulls apart. The switch can now be fully removed.

I was removing the plug to test it as my lights had stopped working. I carefully bent the 'pig tail' grip and the four switch cover retaining tangs back to allow the switch to be separated from its cover (be careful here and the internal parts are only retained by the cover - see pic below). A quick look inside revealed that everything was ok. The cover was just a bit loose and therefore the electrical connection wasn't optimal. The switch was reassembled and the tangs bent back into place to ensure there was no movement between cover and switch. I also wrapped the exposed contacts on the outside of the switch with some electrical insulating tape to prevent it shorting out on anything.

The light switch was then electrically reconnected and the light circuits tested. Everything is now tip top! The Dash Facia was refitted along with the steering column surround.

Sorry mate, i was tired when I posted that. I thought that my plastic bit had been removeable on my dash fascia's.
Inox spray works well on contacts to clean them also.

Glad it sorted your issue though. The connector is only about 30mm though. 80-100 is a bit too big!
