Post subject:  Oil pressure sensor T piece install - copper washer?

Hi,

Currently installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge on an L20b.

When removing the oil pressure sensor and installing the brass T piece do I need a copper washer?

Just some thread sealant will be fine as the T piece generally don't go all the way into the block. Be sure to use a steel one as well as the brass kind can crack over time and break off in the block. Ask me how I know.....

Thank you for the advice trb, much appreciated.

Didn’t realise the brass wouldn’t last.

Never experienced a failure with brass fittings.
It may be a result of a faulty casting?

Racing up at the Temora 1000 a few years ago 1hr before racing starts I noticed a puddle of oil under my car. Brass T piece had snapped off clean at the block I was very lucky to get the broken bit out with an easy out then continue on. After that I made an oil distribution block and remote mounted my sensors to prevent it happening again I also used a steel t piece haha.

Probably due to vibration causing fatigue in the "T".
In a race car that would be a killer :(

Yep 100% mate the vibration along with the weight that was on it wouldn't have helped
