BooooHooooooo hoooooooo :(

I sooo wish i could come to dinner one of these thursday nites....really shoulda made more effort to get offa my latenight working ass and go meet some fellow datto ownerz before i left for Darwin.

Sound like La Porkazs will be doing a roaring trade with all you datto-fiends.

Has Porkyz moved from where they used to be right near the Subway/ClubX/Roundabout-wif-McDonalds-opposite area....opposite the hippy GrapeVine restaraunt?

Hope you all have a mad time. The Matriciana Gnochhi is really good, and 8.90 for a large pizza is freakin nuts. Are VB stubbies still $3.80?

Gawd....makin myself sooooooooo homesick.

Aaron,

Yes, yes you should've come along. La porchettas has moved around to the bottom of fitzroy st these days. Everything is still cheap as hell and the pizza rock. We usually put in $10 each for dinner and wind up with $20 towards coffee and cake which we get a veludor (bottom of acland) afterwards.

When are you back from darwin?

Dave

Hello Datsun Melbourne People,

I just discovered this website and forum. Pardon my ignorance - I had no idea there was a local Datsun club. Good on you.

Eleven years ago I acquired a 79/80 auto Datsun 200B station wagon. Looking rather ordinary, I added some paint in the shape of a TARDIS, some Thunderbirds and Lady Penelope. Since then it has made people laugh, stare, yell and wave arms at it across traffic, or take photos of their kids in front of it.

Would this qualify me for casual membership in the local Datsun club?

I probably couldn't keep up with you hoons on a drive :) but if you still have these regular dinners or maybe a Datsun show day, then I look forward to meeting you.

Hello again,

Thankyou, kind Datsun lovers, for the warm welcome and encouragement.

It would be delightful to join you at dinner tonight. You mention it will be later... what time?

-jc

ps.

Here are some pictures of the 'FAB2' Datsun
http://www.mcherron.com/photos/cars/fab2/

You'll see it's a work in progres. Plenty of room for Thunderbird 5 (roof), more of Thunderbird 2's pod contents (Firefly, Mole..) plus a Blakes 7 Liberator.

Or just paint the whole car yellow, secure a fin on the top and scoop on the front... life-size Thunderbird 4! :D

I have cancelled my other dinner date so it'll be usual time/place. La Porchetta, 7.30.

Give me a ring on 0438 335 841 JC when you get there and I'll come say hi. I'll be wearing a tan cord jacket and jeans and I'm 6'4.

Dave

Dear new Melbourne Datsun friends,

It was lovely to meet you and be so warmly welcomed at the Melbourne weekly dinner recently. Funny to try and identify you among the other diners there. "I'll be wearing a tan cord jacket and jeans and I'm 6'4" doesn't quite work when that person is seated without jacket; but going to each and every table and asking if this is the Datsun club eventually works :D
I'll certainly come to along another Thursday dinner soon...

You inspired us to take a closer look at the vehicle. Did someone mention a spare Datsun 200B for parts? Well, we now have a wish list:

-----
Datsun 200B station wagon (1980/81)
-----

* Rear driver's side tail-light housing (one of the light fittings has totally deteriorated). Alternatively, individual light-bulb fitting for centre, clear light.

* Door seals... for all doors.

* Windscreen seal (metal seal between wind screen and bonnet) + fittings.

Couple of other niggling issues... any suggestions?

1. Radiator consumes way too much water, but no leak.

2. Heater has never worked :(

3. Driver's side windscreen spray doesn't work.

Warm regards,
-jc

Hey JC,
Glad you guys enjoyed yourselves!
Your 200B is.. um... interesting to say the least...
It continually amazes me how diverse the Datsun culture is.

We'll most likely get together again after 'thehelix' gets back from the US.

If your after replacement parts, I recommend that you post in the relevant Technical section - you'll get all your questions answered there

Hey there Justina,

How are you? Good to hear from you again and it was lovely to meet you, and thanks again for the lift home. I'm in LA at the moment and doing a bit of travel and *cough*work*cough. :D

Andrew Greenbury (short bloke who I think? was at dinner) has a yellow 200B wagon which is currently living at my parents place. This car isn't of any use to me nor him I don't think so you're welcome to it. I'm unsure how long I'll be here, but you might be able to con Berko/Juls into going up there and ripping some crap off it (its about an hour from Melbourne though).

I look forward to seeing all of you when I get back. :)

Dave
