hey mal

car looks real nice. I am considering the fixed struts aswell with r32 brakes. ( I already have the calipers).

you are right, coiovers are a wank unless you need them for racing. not needed for the street.

what engine you using?

cheers

Jimmy,

CA18DET. I think coilovers still nice to have but $$ for street driven value maybe not.

I gotta say the full fitout from Datsport is def worth it.

yeah I have the fitting kit for the sr20det. Just having dramas trying to fit her to the engine. It is very very hard. Baz recommended trying to fit the xmember to the engine out of the car and lower the car onto it. I am thinking of a slightly different method where I will lower the engine into the engine bay of a slightly raised car and then once in bolt on the crossmember and raise it with the box and member into postion so it can be bolted up.

Should save the paint work a little more plus I don't have a car hoist.

you have any dramas

No Jimmy no dramas at all, well no more than fitting any motor to any car, always some small thing pops up.

I bolted front crossmember in, had front raised on stands lowered motor in, bolted up rear gearbox member, just to bolts to locate NOT tightened, just started.

Then lowered motor onto crossmember, finished. It is a two man job and required one or two repositions of the chain on motor to swing it in without hitting firewall and rad support.

Fitting motor to crossmember and lowering car onto it would of course also work, but I didnt see the need.

strange. I have had huge dramas trying to fit the engine to the xmember. It just does not fit. I got some measurements off of Baz and will check these tomorrow to see if everything is kocher.

I cannot get the mounts to reach the slots in the xmember. So yours just plonked down onto the xmember and fitted straight up? So jimmying and prying to fit her? No scissor jacks etc??

cheers

hey mate, i got the coil over set up with the slotted rotors, my budjet covered it so what the heck man, yeah maybe there not needed but hey why not, they are great, plus have let me sit the car height spot on at the front, brakes are just awesome, i cant stress how good this set up is, oh yea at the time of fitting the brake and strut combo i went the extra mile and fitted braided lines to the rear r31 disk brake set up too,

yes mate, it pretty much dropped straight in. I did use prybar to get it sitting centred so engine mount bolts in centre of each slot. But the whole thing was not what i would call difficult.

Take some pictures showing what engine mounts ect.

NIZ16, yeh why not if budget alllows. :)

I dont have the kit myself, (It's on the wishlist) but if you look at the fitting instrauctions on the Datsport site they use a pinch bar to get the bolts into the correct slots...

Or is it that far out not even that will help?

don't get me wrong. The kit is well made etc and I seem to be the only one having issues so I will try AGAIN what you have suggested. However when I first tried to mount the member to the engine the first time it did not come close to fitting.

I would rather not go to the trouble AND expense of sening it back and waiting for a replacement. i will exaust all options first and then get back to you. SHould be able to tell you by the end of the day.

cheers

Mal,
I'm wanting to use the same setup as yours and looking at wheel options. What are the wheels you have used and what was the damage $$$ if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you use the same 15x6.5 + 38 offsett rims, with 205/50/15 on the rears? I'm assuming your running R31 disc rear?

Does anyone know what production cars run 15x6.5 + 38 offsett rims, with 114.3 / 4 PCD??

Cheers

Hi.

I paid $500 for the rims secondhand with tyres at the time. They are Lenso make, and quite light. Yes I also run 205 on the rear R31 setup.

I think Honda Integra..may be a good start.

Just an update, I did some "googling" and while some (94-97)Honda Accord are 16 x 7 114.3 +38 and 17x7 114.3 +40 there is only the Integra with 15x6.5 +38 and it is 100PCD !! my mistake.

Ill see if I can find a few more donor vehciles,(15 x6.5 114.3 +38 )although I guess most would go for an aftermarket set of wheels and this size shouldn't be a problem. Another option is 16 x 6.5 114.3 + 40 with the Datsport kit...

Update: Ok I dont have rim width and diamteter but these vehciles are all 114.3 x 4 with +38 to +40 offsett. Feel free to update with width ect when you find out.

Prelude 4 x 114.3 +38 (1992+)
Accent 4 x 114.3 +35-38
Excel 4 x 114.3 +35-38
Sonata 4 x 114.3 +35-38
Lancer 4 x 114.3 +35-42 >1991
Galant 4 x 114.3 +35-42
200SX 4 x 114.3 +35-42 >1994

Im sure there is more but thats a start! :)

Cheers,
Mal
