 Post subject: Diff swap info needed

Hi all, can anyone confirm if a diff from a Bluebird wagon will fit into a 200B wagon (borg/warner), if so is there a preferable one to get? (series 1 2 or 3) any idea on ratios available? would really prefer another 3.89:1 but beggars cant be choosers.

Or failing that, does anyone know the rear track width for a bluey?

Also can I fit series III bluebird sedan discs to a Bluebird wagon diff?

this car is quickly becoming a wallet drainer! (can't wait for the blower though)

Yes you can do it, using a h190 from a series 3 TRX. The H190 is available in other vehicles, but the track in the TRX I know is only slightly longer than that of a 200B, and would be an easy fit. They are a 10 bolt Banjo style diff, which run 28 sline axles. Don't get a Series 1 or 2 TRX as they are only an 8 bolt diff, with 25 sline axles. Ratio, I'm not sure but I think they are aroundthe 3.7-3.9 area. And I couldn't see why you couldn't use the discs on a wagon diff.

Cool, thanks for the extra info guys, really appreciated. I've spotted an S2 wagon at a wreckers with a disc rear end, 'spose I'd better confirm whether it's an auto or manual, suspect it's an auto.

What gets me is these pick a part type places wanna change me 150 for a drum rear end and 170 for a disc rear end, I thought about doing a shifty and converting a drum rear end to disc while I'm there, sounds fair enough to me :lol:

So I take it the easiest way to spot the difference between the two, is counting the bolts holding the centre in, 8 as opposed to 10 for the H190, anyway of externally determining the ratio? or do I need to "go in" and count teeth.

My next thoughts are, Is it worth the effort converting a sedan diff, cutting off original mounts and welding new spring pads would be all that's needed, wouldn't it? are the wagons wider than sedans?

Tailshaft, better figure out if that needs cutting and shutting.

All this is eating into funds I'd rather be spending on some of datsports blower bits.

I think this is the other way around. The Auto has the higher ratio 3.7.
I only say this because I thought the 3.9 ratio Bluebird based H165 diffs were the most common. The H165 Bluebird centre also fits in 1200 ute diff housing.

I have heard of a 10 bolt H190 with a 4.11 ratio but I dont know what they come out of. If anyone knows, could you post a reply. I'm currently looking for one for my S3 910
