Richard yes pics if you can please.
Campbellfield is nearer to me but there where none there at the time, unlike kylsith well done!.

Yes I might need custom pistons to get the best benefit as the twin cam head is more work than I can cope with unfortunately. However the 12 valver has had good raves in the gt3 class in the U.S. something about 300hp at low rpm and bags of torque.

Zac thank you for the magazine information Ill try and get both issues tomorrow at the technical bookshop in melbourne city.
I heard the tube inlets are the ultimate setup but gains are minimal over a well sorted head, however 5-6% improvement is plenty and no manifold to deal with kills to birds with one wad of cash.

Im going to tilt the engine slightly to help inlet angle also if I can and the almost downdraught keihins.

Yes technical bookshop will certainly have the magazine!
You might be surprised by the tube results in the mag (results in issue 3), although it is setup on a 2 valve engine. A KA head with 2 inlet valves has a distinct oval shape to the port before the divider.

Rich, you are on your own with the <85mm bore... try it and see :)

The L18 with 88mm bores will give almost 1896cc which would suit NA but with boost it would be safer to have more meat on the bores as Zac has done. However I honestly thought the valves would touch the bores at 4mm smaller bore than standard.
As for the RACE mag I almost bought but it already illustrated what I know about the process and also it was performed on a fiat twin cam which is a hemi type 2 valver I also considered installing in a datsun previously (im glad I didnt thanx to the ka24e revelation).
It will be interesting anyway to see the next issue I predict around 4-6 per cent max increase in performance however I would love to be completely wrong!

At the technical bookshop I saw a 1600 that had me in shock!
It was an american 2 door version with blended square box flares and beautifully finished detailing that with a an l16 had won some class there quite easily so if that wasnt it in the RACE magazine, you have to excuse me because this thing made me blind afterwards.
I just cant wait till issue 3!!! I can only agree with the luck I need as the oval inlet ports with the divider will be quite a challenge to tube. However the author mentioned in Issue 2 that in future editions of RACE, they will try this exercise on later twin cams.
I feel that they will do it on a ca18de as they are cheap at importers and they are almost an improved vesion of the fiat twin cams (thats a real compliment considering the fiat tc is the most successful engine in rallying) and steve newing has made 240hp on his formidable U2ltr stanza coupe.
Also they are the only common cheap twin cam used in a RWD setup apart from the SR20 (the late sr20de already have a high angled port design it would make sense to try the ca instead). :P
However if we put in an email petition we could maybe ask the author to try it on a ka24e or ka24de head
By the time the tube work is done on my NA ka24e head Ill be maybe able to have a set of the new oval style throttle bodies available on 2006/7 bikes. Ive read that from 2006 R1 and hayabusas will have oval slide injection to take advantage of the oval inlet port designs necessary for 16v twin cam engines and if Im lucky Ill be able to purchase a set of them from someone elses misfortune at bike wreckers. :?

Got the head !!!!! ;))))))
Zac

The engine had 178,000ks on the clock and the tops of the pistons were very clean and the combustion was burning perfectly. :)

YAY....

What gearbox are you using?

Someone said you had clearances issues with master cylinder (maybe clutch).... and you said something about leaning the engine?

if you were having fun in a 1600, I'm gunna be stuffed in a 1200

thats all I can think of for now

Cheers,

Richard

Just a 240k box. You can use any box that bolts on the back of an L-block and fits in the tunnel.

Yeah had problems with the master cylinder, but the simplest solution would have been to just run a single circuit master cylinder. There are a few ways around it. Damn where is my website? A picture explains everything!

With the box I was more meaning how was it standing up to the almost 200kw of grunt? I'm planning to put a R30 bellhousing on a SR20DET box (which I got cheap last weekend). We'll see how that goes

So its the KA intake manifold (which is huge) which causes the issues with the MC? I guess I'll just have to wait and see what problems I run into. You'll probably be back before I'm even putting it in the car... with work and other cars, this project gets last priority atm. :(

It's a 240k box, it can handle the grunt!

Turbovan, not the hosting - it's the site sitting on my hard drive buried in a cupboard on the opposite side of the Earth!
