Bad photos sorry but you get the idea! Still some triming and drilling to get it right but its a start and an easyish solution.

When i get more done i will post more pics, have been busy with other things.

Its just a piece of solid alloy billit though so there wouldnt be much to look at from the side until later maybe.

Hello, just read through these 22 pages again.

Will the ka24de head fit onto a standard z18 botton end with no issues resulting from the 85mm bore?

Since the original bore for the ka24de is 89mm and it has large valves as well, would the valves not hit the cylinder wall?

Also i see the ka20de has a bore of 86mm, would this make it any better for the job when thinking about this concern only or would it have the valves etc in the same places?

Can any one help me find answers to these questions?

cheers

-Mike.

Post subject:  Re: KA24E Head Conversion

I've had a KA24DE head sitting on an L18 block (with an 86mm bore) and operated the valves by hand - didn't seem to be any clearance issues. I don't have the cam chain sorted yet, so haven't mocked it up in a "running" state.

KA20DE - I've seen references to these, but they seem to be a Japan-only engine and not usually exported like SR20's, etc so may be hard (or impossible) to find.

Cheers for your reply!
My new pistons are 85.5 so im interested to see if i could use them.
If i ever tried to use this head.

a quick search of yahoo japan brings up a couple of ka20de's

http://page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... p241652051
http://page22.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/l72020784
http://page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... p241651801

so im thinking if someone really wants one an engine importer should be able to come up with one upon request.

but it would really only be worth it if they did have less cc in the head.

Though the distributor and everything seems in ideal places on the ka20de for use in this topic which is a bonus.

My intention is to use pistons up around 87mm - even if there are no clearance issues, I figure that a bit extra valve-to-cylinder wall clearance can only help it breath better.

tri-flow cams for better low and mid range.
Operateds 2 diff profiles for the inlets to increase flow.

Just some info on the gt2 340hp KA24E race engine that was detuned for gt3 to 280hp
to last a thousand hours instead of halve that.
Quote:
" * Engine Builder: Dave Auerbach
* Manufacturer: Nissan
* Type: KA24
* Displacement: 2.4 liter
* Induction: Twin Mikuni 44 side draft
* Heads: Nissan 12 valve
* Block: Nissan
* Main Caps: Nissan Comp
* Crankshaft: Nissan Comp
* Connecting Rods: Carillo
* Pistons: J&E
* Camshaft: Rebello
* Valves: Nissan Comp
* Valve Train: Nissan Comp
* Clutch: Tilton 2 disk 5 1/2
* Pressure Plate: Tilton 5 1/2
* Flywheel: Tilton 5 1/2
* Exhaust: 4-2-1
* Total Time: 1.2 hrs
* Races: 1
"

this motor is obviously built for high rpm use, which is necessary for its claimed 340hp output. obviously this is for a race car, but it gives you a bit of an idea of what you need to go through to build huge N/A numbers out of these.

Especially because this is a carb'd SOHC.
Ok guys. I can't be too specific here but I'll give a few specs
1. Rebello DIDN'T build this engine. Dave Auerbach did.
2. SOHC KA's don't like more than 7800rpm's They tend to turn the rockers into "dust"
3. Compression ratio on this engine is 14.38 to 1
4. 44mm Mikuni carbs with 34mm chokes on nissan comp manifolds
5. Cam is .620 lift (can't tell you duration, sorry)
6. Cyl head, manifolds and exhaust have MANY hours of work
7. Torque is 231@5200 and HP is 281@7500 at the flywheel
8. Rebuild interval is 1000 miles (running between 5200 and 7800 rev range)
9. You absolutly CAN run this engine on the street. When I drive it through the paddock to the false grid, it drives like puppy! At 7800rpm's it's a bit like !

When we dynod the engine with 50mm Mikuni's and 44mm chokes we got 341HP at 8000rpm's. We figured that rebuild intervals would be about 400-500 miles at that HP and I decided to run the car in GT3 (restricted to 34mm chokes and 281hp) instead of GT2 (44mm chokes and 341hp) to try and cut down cost a bit.
If you want an engine like this,...Plan on spending around $18,000
Or you could buy the car and ALL my spares (2 engines,2 transmissions,2 rear axle assemblies and a TON of other stuff) for $35,000 TODAY
