Im in my 30's, Started as a panel beater, spent time as a Combat Engineer in the Army, hold a degree in IT and worked for a Multi-national IT firm until made redundant, Currently serving time as a truck driver Mon - Fri for a building supply company, drive tippers for a garden supply mob on most weekends, and after hours part time production welder for a company that make pipework for building fire systems.

all in all, Im a jack of all trades, hopeless at some

Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Shaun 31,
Lighting Designer / Sales rep in the architectural lighting indusrty.
Basically help architects and electrical engineers design the lighting on or in buildings. Currently working on the Melbourne Arts Cetnre and the Melbourne Airport. Nothing that can help with my 1600 project.
Moving to England in a few weeks for 12 months. Maybe a break from the lighting industry while I'm there.

Steve, 25, electrical engineer - moved to Roxby Downs (SA) early this year for work. Now living in the middle of the desert and not having the big shed with all the tools I used to have in Melbourne make it bloody hard to progress with any datto work. Plus it's way too hot to do any work on a car during summer. Plus the town has limited supply of parts and other resources... :( . whinge, whinge.....

Neil

46, Computer Programmer in Melb.

Had my $300 birdshit-brown 1600 with tired imported L18 since the eighties (Had a white one before that, my brother had one too.) It must have done 15 Canberra-Melb returns with 3 kids and luggage (and yeah, I revved it all the way with the 4spd..... can't recall if the speedo ever worked, but the Datto never - ok, seldom - got left behind). Then laid it off for 6 years in the garage while in the UK. Came back, started it up and registered within 2 days (wheel cylinder, muffler). After six months use and another recent retirement spell in the garden for two years, she (it, sorry. Sounding like a Jaguar owner  ) is getting stripped for a (probably bare-metal) respray and panel job. Figure I owe it, really. (how sad is that?) Just got to find the money :( . Panels need some work, not much rust.

I am reasonably proficient on the mechanical side, but wouldn't have a clue about, or the patience for painting/welding. Although 'I do got a MIG' ... methinks best to keep it well away from the 1600. Should practice on something else. (The Marina round the corner, maybe?).
Determined for it NOT to become an 'abandoned project' anyway, but these may be te darkest days... :?

Sorry, exceeded the brief of this thread, but 'what are you gonna do?' :)

Cheers, Neil.
