I have a few gearboxes lying around but none of them clearly show which type they are.

My problem is that I don't know which gearbox to use.
A few years ago I converted an F5W71C box which I think it is called and which is coming out of a Silvia 180SX (CA18ET) to an L28 bell housing.
Not to difficult to do. Now I have the CA bell housing available and I want to use this housing to bolt another 5 speed up to a CA18DET for placement in a '77 180B (Aus. 200B).

I measured everything and all seems to fit but the box I have available is one of a '82 280ZX, I think it is called an FS5W71B.

Would this box be strong enough to hold ~300-325 bhp?

The CA18 gearbox uses a much larger shifter housing compared to the older boxes.

Not a problem with the strength of that box,
easy to mix & match parts with most of those
series.

Are you saying you want to put a 71B box behind and engine that by default has a 71C? Why go backwards? Is it that hard to get your hands on a CA18DET gearbox where you are?

Dave

PS. I get the feeling I'll be testing the strength of the 71A box shortly. :(
