you can get an adaptor plate and fit a 32/36 weber off a 2.0L escort/cortina.

when jetted for your application, these are a very good carb on an L series. many, many people have used them on this forum to great success.

the L series engines also came out with twin SUs - but that was only the L16 and L18. i'm not sure if that rule can extend to the L20 - you'd best check before looking into that.

but yes, they will be an improvement over the 32/36 and being a factory option you can also use the factory twin SU manifold.

I personally have a 32/36 on my wagon at the moment, and I get great fuel economy.

She goes quite good aswell.

Before that I had a stock 6 cylinder L series carby bolted to the manifold,

Same bolt pattern.

Car went a little harder, used more fuel though.

For speedway, I would personally drop on a pair of 40 mm webbers as you would be keeping it right on the am in the rev range all the way around the track.
