Hi,

Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Sydney to look at my 240Z? I live on the Northern beaches.

It's blowing smoke, but only intermittently. I'm investigating it myself, but I fear I might run out of time before the rego is due. Hence getting a mechanic to check it out.

Thanks

He's a good bloke, and works on many Datsuns. He also races a 1600, but his shop is a 'general repairs' shop, not a specific Datto one.

When does it blow smoke? After it has been sitting idling for a bit?

Thanks Fr3ak.

I can't pick when it will blow smoke, however i've driven down a certain hill a few times and it's done it there. It appears to be white / blueish in colour.
I did a comp test last night, all cylinders were even, but I didn't have any oil to spray inside to check the rings. I'm thinking it is a valve thing.

I went down that hill again yesterday, sure enough it started belching smoke. However today I was coasting down a slight incline with my foot completely off the accelerator, and it started doing it again. Perhaps the problem isn't with the downward slope, but the coasting with no throttle? :?

I remember reading once that a good way to test the rings on a car is to coast down a slope, and accelerate at the bottom. Apparently, the increased vacuum can draw oil up from the crankcase on intake, which then causes smoking as its burnt.

Maybe it's rings then?
