Having seen plenty of rubber kits in my time from all the suppliers mentioned in this thread, there was no lack of quality in the Malaysian rubbers.

It amazes me how people will assume the more expensive price tag always indicates better quality and anything cheap must be rubbish

Best bet is to look through the contents of the kits (can be done thru their web pages), and ask around on quality. Then judge for yourself.

FWIW, I could have sworn Datsport had some Rare Spares rubbers for sale in their store, the last time I was there. :?:
Dude, rubber is rubber. The actual manufacturing costs would ammount to basically nothing. Sure, in some cases you get what you pay for but that is generally where the manufacturuing costs make up a large percentage of the final price or where there is a need for highly skilled labour. Rubber requires neither - a machine squirts crap out of a die, some dude cuts it to length and wraps it in a bag. Postage stamp on the side. Job done.

Turbovan,

Considering we only just discussed LSDs on the cheap, do you really think that I'm a believer of more money = better?

I was not having a go at you. My post was written before I read yours. Have a look at the times our replies were posted.

If you've found a good kit for $315, then that's great. More than great. I'll definitely check out the link later.

My real point was that the Rare Spares kit and the Scotts kit don't contain the same things. Check the contents to make sure a kit has what you want first, buyer beware, yada yada yada... Judging kits purely on price is misleading.

bob260,

Read above. I've been involved in seal design & manufacture before - your view on seal manufacturing is an interesting one!

I bought a full rubber kit for my 1600 from this dude in Malaysia:

Delivery was pretty fast, the quality is good - they all fit properly.

And total price was $315 delivered.

80% of world's rubber production comes from South East Asia - cut out the middleman :)

A certain person i know wasnt entirely happy with Rizals over priced - bogged up - part missing - red 1600 coupe when it landed in australia...

For that reason i have never bought anything from Rizal before.

Hey beef,

No probs dude I wasn't having a go at you either - we are all a happy Datto family here :D

I was just making a point that I see all the time whether it be rubber kits, chinese intercoolers, stereos or whatever - people using price as an absolute indicator of quality.

Usually low price indicates low quality, but sometimes it is not the case. The more precision required in a parts operation, the less likely cheap stuff will be adequate.

I bought a cheap chinese intercooler for my car, but I wouldnt buy a cheap turbo from the same source.

Nick,

Having been to Malaysia and seen all the bogged up shitboxes cruising around the enormous rubber plantations, I would only buy rubber not cars from there
