I just purchased a complete L18 for $50. It has an A87 head on it. I believe they are are better head than a U67. What makes A87 better than U67? Is it port size? valve size? flow capabilities? ......................? |

Yep they are better if you want to run a high comp motor. The chambers are smaller and it has the peanut chamber. U67 I would use for a turbo L series setup. What are your plans to the re-build? |

The plan is to use factory, rods, crank, balance full rotating assy. Do the required head work and run the appropriate comp to run a 74degree cam(which I believe has an aprox rpm range of 3500-7000ish) and the twin 45's I have also. This is a track only vehicle. |

this head is also came w/ an open chamber version as well. can't tell which it is until it is off the motor. heard stories of people bringing in the open and getting the closed back. lucky bastards. |

YELLOWDAT why is the u67 better than the a87 for turbocharging, reason for asking is that i was going to turbo an L20 that has the a87, does the u67 have lower compression or something? cheers |

i'd use the A87 head for turbocharging because it has better squish properties than the U67. in fact, i'd use the A87 and W53 head for any build up. if you want lower CR, use dished pistons. |

the block should handle a lot of boost my l20b is a series 2 trx, so it has high comp pistons standard i got a 1.3mm coper spacer, my rough callculations is that this only slightly decompresses this over a standard l20 i have safely run 16 psi into my block for over a year now, even had it running near 20 psi, put lack of carby tuning left it a bit lean on fuel i think its pretty safe to say the l block can cop a lot of sh*t |
