Hi all,

The 720's decided to sh*t itself and I cant figure out whats going on.
Over the last day or two It would be hard to start, then would miss something shocking at anything over idle, all the while with the tacho needle flopping all over the gauge. So I'd turn the engine off, turn it back on and it would run fine (might take 2 or 3 goes). Thismorning it came to a point where it wont even fire anymore. I replaced the coil and the plugs and the battery, and now the fuel pump doesnt work either! It's only getting 10volts. Any clues on whats going on? I'm stumped.

Looking forward to all responses,

-Tyrie

tyrie - What happens when you turn the key? does it even try to kick over?

When you say the fuel pump does'nt work, have you tried by passing the ignition switch to see if it is something wrong with the ingniton

Ok I should have included more in my original post.
It has an electric fuel pump that should come on when the key reaches the 'ON' position, it now doesnt, I have pulled pump out and it works fine on 12 volts, just not ten, have not had time to trace wires yet. engine kicks over fine but gets no fuel.

Ok dont worry I'm just a ****, I wired the fuel pump to the wrong side of the ballast resistor when replacing the coil, silly me. And the change of coil/plugs seems to have fixed the missing problem... we'll see. Thanks Jbwetzels for the advice.

Power off the coil bllast resistor is not really the correxct way to do this
Should go off the fuse box. See if there is a spare wire there that turns on with the key ignition.

well its like hooking it up to the headlights. Turn light on to turn the pwer on? splice it to the Radio power then.

You want the corrct amount of current to the coil. That runs off its own circut that is designed for . The ignition is a important circut. You cut the current to the coil which will lead to a weaker spark. But if its OK with you then it doesnt matter but really you were lazy to look at another soarce just that was the ezest to pick. maybe this is why the Tach dont work right?

Most fuse box have a spare wire under neath them. with a spare fuse like the 510 has a blue wire under neath it if you take it out.

Splicing a fuel 12volt wire to the coil ignition is a Nigger Rig if a ever saw one. But better a 720 than a 510.
