I was told by a few people that the L series engines needed to run on Leaded petrol. Whereas other people have told me just to run on normal unleaded. since they dont make leaded petrol anymore should i use unleaded? Also is there any benefits in using say BP Ultimate in a L16.

Dizmo i think you just need to adjust your timing for it to run on unleaded. Im no expert but have high comp l20b and it runs on PULP just fine havent tried it on ULP though.

There have been adverts here in Brissy about a new shell 95 ulp which i think would be the old premium unleaded that might be a bit cheaper and worth a go if you can get it.

Shell ULP 95 has been phased in at the same time they got rid of LRP.... they are using the same tanks, so if they used to sell LRP they will now sell ULP 95.

Because L series heads are alloy, they already have hardend valve seats fitted.
The use of ULP wont have any effect on the engine what so ever
I've been running PULP in my Hi-comp L28 in my Zed for the last 4 years without any ill-effects...

98 octane premium and give it a bit of extra base timing! Shell Optimax, Caltex Vortex 98, Mobile 9000, BP Ultimate

why not tune it for ULP 91 and save 7c a litre?

i currently run it on regular ULP but the timing is a little out so it keeps running on. the fuel consumption is a little high so any ideas besides a tune.

...........word from the horses mouth says ULP will be a thing of the past by mid 2006, 95 will be standard. Lead replacement gets the arse in September, if it hasnt already been removed at most capital city stations already. Sure I hope i dont have to eat these words later on. Ill have to shoot the fuckin horse then.
