Hey guys
I just went over to a local exhaust place to get a qoute, what do u think of $250- $260 for 2", no resonator, mild steel, pressed bent, with extra $20 for a tip.
Im not going to worry about paying extra for mandrel, i dont need it. He was also trying to talk me into a hotdog resonator for $35, he thinks it will sound good with one, i dont really care about that, im happy to have none to give it a nice mean sound. I suggested 2 1/4" for the exhaust but he thinks that would be too big. :?
Whatd'you reckon on all this.
Thanks in advance

Steve :P

a resonator will cut the drone of the exhaust down.. I have a 2" system on my 180b with a single straight through muffler at the back with no resonator and it's bloody loud!

Dude take it easy. Your first post made no mention of what motor. For all we knew it could have been a T88 equipped FJ20 or something :P. Such information greatly effects the advice you are going to get.

Now, in my opinion, for a 2.4 Litre motor, 2" press bent is too small. I'd be going 2" mandrel at a minimum.
If you want to save some cash however, go for 2.25" press bent.

Going a bit bigger in exhaust size now won't hold you back if you want to chase more power with a cam or carby's later.

hey man,
my l20b 1600 is a 2 1/4 " mandrel with a hot dog and a 4 " muffler and its very loud. so i would put a hot dog on it for sure, other wise you will attract the wrong kind of attention, and it will be an uncomfortable car to drive. thats just my opinion though. 8)

I have a 76 180b, at the moment I have the factory L18 in it, and am not going to change the engine. I do however intend on modifying it. I have done a bit of research and have been told to stick with the stock headers to save cash because I am only doing mild performance modifications. I am intending on replacing the cam with something mild or a torque cam (haven't gotten to the stage of researching this yet, however I have looked around on crow cams and wade cams web sites). The reason I'm sticking with mild mods is I want to retain the around town driveability. I am also changing the ignition to a series II bluebird as reccomended, and changing the carbs (probably twin SUs, but maybe something better). I also wish to change the exhaust from the header back and I want to do this first. Based on the modifications I have mentioned above and the fact it's an L18, and that I don't wish to rev it beyond 6500rpm, what type of exhaust (diameter, mufflers, etc) would be best suited to my application if I were to obtain a good increase in performance without sacrificing much bottom end or any mid range torque?
