DAVE,
windscreen wipers dont self set at bottom if an earth wire is disconnected from wiper motor.

Ah ok. They self-set every 3/4 of a cycle, instead of every full cycle. Methinks the people who replaced the motor when I first got the car put something different on there?

Just finished err.. `modifying' my tie rod ends so I could wind out the LCAs some more, having the guards lipped to accommodate the wider front track, and painting the crapper starion turbo rims I had lying about black. This is the result.

Nothing looks better than a 260Z in profile.

No. :( I was really hoping to go last weekend but there are still too many things to be done. Next, and last for the time being, on the list is trying to figure out why I have boost control issues.

Fixed head gasket (yes, again).
Fixed boost control (I believe, yet to drive).
Ripped out centre console stuff, replaced with alu bits.

dave, how did having the guards lipped accommodate the wider front track? were the tyres hitting on the inside of the guard, or sticking out from the wheel arches?

Post subject:

Wider front track means wheels go outwards more, tyres hit inner edge of guard, so had to be lipped/flared.

so do the guards actually end up wider? i might have a problem getting my car over the pits cos less positive wheel offset means wider track means 195's poke out past the wheel arches.

obviously have the guards rolled won't solve this, but is there some way to 'flare' them to make them wider?

cheers mate

Sorry guppy, I see what you're saying now. Lipping the guards does not make them stick out any further. Mine were also flared about an inch or so according to the panel beater. I was contemplating doing it myself with a hammer but then as soon as the 1st crack in the paint appeared from my hammering it I thought ``nah, he'll have some magical whizz bang way of doing it''.

Went to pick it up: ``Yeah I had to repaint it because the paint cracked and fell off.'' He just got a block of wood and smacked it with a hammer. :)

So yeah, lipping does not mean flaring.

Oh and FYI, here is what happens when you hook up a 100A+ car battery to a 2A house battery.

I was standing there thinking.. hmm.. i know dad had this hooked up a certain way, I think this went there, and that went there, which means this maybe goes here and then this last one, well I'll be careful with that.

Dabs the connector onto the terminal, little zap, pulls it away.

Thats pretty normal.

Puts it on while standing over it watching.

BANG!

A piece of the plastics sliced my forehead open and I was sprayed with battery acid.

Mad1600 was in the shed next door playing with my car and his ears were ringing for a while. I was standing 30cm over the battery.

Dave, im curious about your gauges mounted in the centre of the dash, can you actually see them when you are driving?

Author:  thehelix112 [ Wed Apr 05, 2006 11:08 am ]
Post subject:

More or less. You can see the needle which is all you have time for anyway. This is more a temporary measure until I get a full fibreglass dash and strip the car totally.
