Thanx Godzilladat and Baz!

Baz: Yeah, well about the visors, what else can you do? They were pretty dirty before I ripped them out. I ended up spraying them in VHT white vinyl paint. Seems to work for the short term, but I have my doubts about hand prints getting all over them...

Here are a few photos of the half cut that I have bought.
She's an S14 SR20DET. Supposedly had around 40K on the clock (give or take a few thousand) :lol:
Ripped the cam cover off and had a look at the condition of the cams, and they are close to BRAND NEW!!!. Also, check out the amount of 'sludge' on the top of the cam cover.... NOTHING!!! (YAY)

Just pulling out a few things to give back to the wreckers. (such as air conditioning condenser etc.)

Pliers are factory.... :lol:

Here's a few more of the half cut!
(MMMMmmmmm Variable inlet timing.)

Ripped the cam cover off and had a look at the condition of the cams, and they are close to BRAND NEW!!!. Also, check out the amount of 'sludge' on the top of the cam cover.... NOTHING! (YAY)

I have also included a photo of the FACTORY 1600 TACHO. Yes I bought this baby from Nissco many years ago, when they had one.

This will be fitted in due course, when I can pull out the factory clock. (ha ha). When the S14 motor is fitted, I will not be using any autometer gauge or anything sitting on the dash.. Factory tach is going to be working overtime... (No shift light either!) Interior is going to be old school!

Young Padawan! (ha ha :lol: )

Mate thanx for the reply. I am just one 1600 owner of many that you will find in here that have done all they can in restoring their 16. Pleasure to show you what I have done, and answer any questions you might have.

Fortunately I have access to some pretty good resources, and plus my old man tought me everything I know. (Thanx Dad!)

So far she's taken around 6 years to complete, but during that time I have completed my Mech. Eng. degree, and worked to save up so I could afford to paint the damn thing. Didn't work hard core or anything, just on weekends when I wasn't following those other things that take all our money... (females...) :roll:

Watch this space Gents (and ladies for that matter).... :oops:
The show has only just begun... (hope I can do this as good as TurboVan and his late Members ride section on his car :hail: .... R.I.P old members ride section!)

I am in the process of building up my own rear cross member (fully adjustable) with 4" hole for 3" exhaust. Plus a few other little tricks... She'll be powder coated or something similar...

I will also be coming up with a new intercooler mounting... Never been done before...

Plus, the Z Bar, a rear stabiliser bar, as designed by my old man. Meant to be really good for drag (low amount of squat when you dump the clutch) Plus when you go around corners, she wont lift up the inside wheel! -more on this later though...

having built quite a few over the years im not really a fan of rear bars.
best result i ever had was from a 12mm one. :wink:

we also have a new I/C rad mounting in the works 90% completed.
Rad & I/C uses 4 mounts to body only.

will post this as soon as comleted.
we are using the generic hybrid/monza/reject I/C with a custom rad.
will be a production kit.

Baz,

This isn't going to be a sway bar. So hopefully it wont behave like one :wink:

I'd be interested in seeing the IC and the design involved. Sounds like you will beat me to release! I haven't even started yet, but I am starting to source an intercooler for the job.
The size I will be considering is similar to Monstabishi Evo, or Ford XR6 Turbo. (with a few mods)

I rushed mine to finish it in 3 months for the Datnats, but would like to strip it all down again and give due attention to cosmetics like yours.

Should be easier now that the body is done to slot all the goodies in! Plus I get to see how much of an improvement changing stuff makes... (rear brakes from drums to discs etc.)

That machine is looking sweet man, I especially love the attention to detail.
My latest work with a datsun can be seen in my little AVATAR pic on the left :lol: A datsun and a paddock is a good combo haha. I still have to talk my dad in to doing up his 1600 tho.

Here are some old photos of the car about to be taken to the bead blasters... YES they are factory pin stripes!!! :lol:

The other photo is a shot of the underside while the car is on the rotisarie being seam welded by yours truly. She's a bit dirty underneath, but it all got cleaned up in the end

stitch welded chassis - nice! is that in anticipation for engineer's cert.?

and how come it's going to a bead blaster? surely the heat would warp the panels? or are you using something funky like crushed apricot kernels or cork?

Yes it was in anticipation of slotting in the SR20DET, plus the engineers certificate. I plug welded a few of the other sections aswell, so when I was at it I thought seam welding the whole car was a valid exercise... Plus it keeps the Automotive engineers happy.

Apricot Kernels??? Who ever eats all the apricots is in trouble!
I actually got he car plastic bead blasted. Didn't warp the panels at all. Sand blasting is perfect for warping panels (if that is the look you are going for!)
