I am really keen for a cruise of the other variety though. Anyone who is keen PM me and I will let you know when it is on.
It will be fast though, prob through the Spurs (Reefton/Black) so if you are not into pushing hard it is probably not the event for you.
Will most likely be late arvo in the next couple of weeks. Don't expect a lot of notice ;) Jake
Hazza! The (other) madman has returned! :D PM sent.

Blew the headgasket on my car yesterday so I won't be cruising. The wastegate was leaking from the pressure side of the diaphram and not opening. I tightened up the offending loose screws and put the 15psi spring in there.. and took her for a drive.. and HOLY HELL!

I think the other 5psi spring was far too light and was bleeding the gas as it builds boost because instead of getting 4psi at 3500 with a pause of 1000rpm before it goes crazy it just goes nuts!

Light squeeze in 4th(!) saw immediate sideways.
Now THATs what I was expecting with the GT35R!

I'm not too sure what the spring in the wastegate is rated to because it still didn't control boost, went past 20 a couple of times and being the idiot that I am, I hadn't pulled timing out of the map I was provided and its blown the head gasket at #6 and #4.

Anyway, I'll be at the BBQ.

Dave

Ah well - it was always just a matter of 'When'

Time for an uprated headgasket? (nismo, if you can find one or ridgecrest)

Or pull the bottom end and o-ring it?

It was indeed always just a question of time. I'm lucky in that I now know how much detonation it takes (via the trusty headphones) to blow a gasket, and now I know how much to allow (none!).

I'm still keen to see how much power the stock nissan components can take (head gasket included) so I'll be replacing it with a genuine L28ET gasket I think. Not looking forward to the couple of days of swearing and pulling bits off and putting them back on its going to entail. But now I'm REALLY keen to get it back onto the track. :D

I've been told the GT35Rs really come alive around 18-25psi so I haven't scratched the surface yet. :D

Ha a haa, yer I know it is forum only.
Gee wasn't Terry born in Ozdat??

Seems a shame the mailing list has seemed to died down.

Specially as I lost my Terry info/words of wisdom when the @ozdat email people wiped my account

Right, I'm bringing the drinks (soft drink) + Ice + Plastic cups.

I think we should all BYO meat for the BBQ - buying for a large horde is going to be damn exxy for just 1 person to buy :?
