This isnt a Datsun related questions, its about my RB30e. But never the less will apply across the board.

The RB30e's use exhaust studs with a billion different types of washers and nuts, depending on what cylinder.

Now do i spend $70 to get proper studs/washers/nuts from nissan. Or do i use the HT bolts from coventry's that cost me $8.

What are the issues?

Tightening torque for these is only 27-31nm

Thoughts?

whatever's easiest. it's not like it's a stressed situation or anything.

HT bolts will be plenty for the RB30E exhaust manifold.

Bolts go in the bin.

Have heard of people using steel nuts & studs on their cars, have found that heat + corrosion = real tight = snapped stud in head = uh oh. Bolts should be the same.

Nissan ones are what they are for good reason. If things go wrong, the nuts are soft, and give their lives so your head doesn't have to.

Additionally those "high tensile" bolts from Coventry's may well be junk anyway. At work, we've had several from them, brand new, with BIG cracks down the side. We stopped using them for bolt supply a long time ago. That's not Coventry's fault BTW, it's their suppliers.

you consider 27nm real tight?

i did up the flywheel bolts the other night.... 152nm... i thought that was real tight..

I don't consider 27Nm real tight. I do consider seized fasteners as real tight, tho.

Bolts? Studs?

Anyway, the FJ20ET has steel studs and stainless steel nuts , stock. Never had them seize.

thanks for ure input beef.

i've had the studs rust up and sieze on rb30's. i dont think i'd win in either situation.

i'll do what ever is easiest at the time. i only have 1 weekend to do it. cause its my daily car.

so i cant wait for parts to come in. :roll:
