anyone know how to get the steering box detached from the linking arm that bolts on underneath it in a 1600?

i have removed the bolt but the linking arm does not  want to come of. i have used a lump of wood and hit it with a large hammer but it does not want to budge.

it seems fully wedged on to the steering box.

any tricks or special tools i should know about :?:

Try a ball join separator and a hammer

they look like long sloped U-shape with a handle.

i am pretty sure its not a ball joint though.

its a bit like how the steering wheel fits on to the colum. it slips over and lines up with the teeth.

looks like it should just slip off.

You've probably already done this but soak it in RP7 or DW40 or equivalent a few time and give it time to soak in then try hitting it again. Or try to make up a puller of some sort. I think I gave up on mine and pulled it all out together. Then it came apart later...I guess that's always the way.

yea i tried the rp7 etc... but maybe didnt wait long enough

im gonna spray a bit on every night until the weekend and try hitting it again.

if that dont work then i shall just buy a ball joint seperator and undo the next nearest link.

cheers

You need to use a PITMAN ARM REMOVER.
Two claws hook behind the arm and a centre screw puts pressure on the centre of the threaded section of the steering box shaft.
Wind up the screw and viola! the arm falls off.
The shaft is tapered and splined so once you break it free, it literally falls off.
