Thought this could be a handy reference...
I've taken some of the info from the link below that looked relevant to datsun modifications in our state.
Let me know if i should change or add anything...

Positive crankcase ventilation (p.c.v):
-vehicles manufactured on or after 1July70 must have?

Emission controls: -none besides p.c.v for vehicles prior to 1Jan72?
-Can be fitted with alternative carbs, cams, etc so long as exhaust don?t exceed specified levels for vehicles built on or after 1Jan72 but before 1Apr74?

ECU: - should be standard but can be changed with breif emission test?

Turbo/Supercharger: - prior to 1Jan72 can be fitted with turbo/supercharger without Transport Sa approval?
-1Jan72 to 1Jan74 can be fitted with turbo/supercharger without Transport Sa approval so long as it does not exceed 4.5% Carbon monoxide emission test at idle?

Turbo timers: -turbo timers cannot be fitted to vehicles built on or after 1Jan72?

Engine modifications:- vehicles made on or after 1Jan72 but prior to 1Apr74 can be fitted with pre emmision or emission engines and alternative carburettors, camshafts or other engine mods are permitted as long as emissions do not exceed the specified levels.

Induction: - you can alter boost pressure and blowoff valves for cars built pre 1Jan76?

Exhaust: -all cars prior to 1Jan83 must not exceed 96decibels of noise from exhaust. The exhaust outlet must exit beyond the last door or window opening on the side or rear of vehicle. The exhaust outlet must be as close as possible to the outer edge of the vehicle but outside or under the vehicle.

Track width: -must not be increased more than 26mm beyond the maximum specified by the manufacturer?

Wheels/tyres: -wheel spacers are not allowed?
-wheels widened with a spacer band are not allowed?
-cars built before 1Jan73 can have a wheel size larger than 50mm bigger than std?
-cars built before 1Jan73 can have an overall wheel and tyre diameter more than 15mm bigger than the largest tyre size listed on the tyre placard ?
-tyres and wheels must have adequate clearance (not rub) from the body and suspension of the car and shall not protrude past the bodywork when viewed from above?

Speedometer:- -must only be accurate reading for cars manufactured on or after 1Jul88?

Lowering: -must not reduce clearance from the rubber bump stop to the corresponding metal stop greater than 33% from the std manufacturers spec?
-must have ground clearance greater than 100mm fore or aft of any axle for everything other than wheels/brakes?

Steering wheels: -must be recommended by the manufacturer as approved or be certified for use on the vehicle (steering wheel and adaptor) for vehicles built on or after 1Jan71?
-vehicles built before 1Jan71 can be fitted with non-standard steering wheels so long as they are no bigger/smaller than 26mm from standard?

Bonnet scoops: - rearward facing scoops are allowed with approval or inspection so long as:
a) it doesn?t reduce the structural strength of the bonnet,
b) if there is any rigid components protruding above the bonnet line the scoop is made of equivalent guage mild steel as the bonnet (not fiberglass/plastic),
c) all edges and corners shall not have a radius of less than 5mm,
d) shall be able to view a line on the road 11metres in front of the car when looking over the scoop from the drivers chair when positioned at its rearmost position (height of 750mm above and 270mm forward of the pivot point of the lower and upper seat),

Roll cages: - are permitted so long as:
a) it is only a half cage,
b) is greater than 150mm rearward of the front seating occupants with their seats adjusted to the most rearward position,
c) all rear seat belts and seats are removed,
d) no passengers sit in the back,
e) the front seatbelts are not afected in anyway by the roll cage.

Seats: -vehicles manufactured on or after 1Jan71 require transport sa approval prior to modification?

Harness seatbelts: -can only be fitted to vehicles built from 1Jan69 to 1Jan75 with an engineers cert.

Interior equipment: -equipment such as venetian blinds, fire extinguishers, fans should be anchored by a system so that they can withstand a force of 20times the mass of the equipment?

The regs are not cast in stone.
Some can be varied if you have a good engineer.
Ie track width for one.

They should put more information on their website i reckon. Stuff like the lists of 'approved engine conversions', etc.
